ROM Vs. Batman

 

In the middle chapter of this Three-Part Epic, we see that the Dark Knight has not taken kindly to the events of last issue!  But if ROM is innocent, then what is really going on here?  Make sure that you return tomorrow for the exciting conclusion!

The Human Target Vs. Bullseye

 With code names like these two have, it was an inevitability that they would face off against one another sooner or later. Will the target that is famously hard to hit be able to evade the marksman that notoriously never misses?  I don't know but I do know that I'd want to read about it!

Hellboy and Wonder Woman

Fans got their way with the announcement that the Snyder Cut of Justice League will be completed and presented on HBO Max.  Now there's lots of talk of an Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, since much of that movie was lost in editing.  It's nice to know that studios pay attention to some of these online movements.  I wonder what it would take to allow Guillermo Del Toro to complete his Hellboy Trilogy, after the poorly received reboot all but killed the franchise.

Spider-Man and Batgirl in: "Howl of the Waynewolf!"

I am really curious as to what kind of plot will be cooked up for the sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.  If the end credits scene from the first installment is any indication, we can at least expect Spider-Man 2099 to show up.  I love the idea that has been floated of the movie Spideys (Maguire, Garfield, Holland) showing up, it might be fun to see them play off of one another.  Heck, let's let Nicholas Hammond's Spider-Man join the fun!

Robin (Son of Batman) and Miles Morales: Spider-Man

After my most recent Spidey-Robin 2-Parter (which began in STF #2755 and Concluded in STF #2756), there were some requests for a version of the pairing that featured Damian Wayne and Miles Morales.  Well, here you go!

The Original Spidey and Robin have had a bit of history on the blog - They first met back in my B&B: The Lost Issues days... They used the Spider-Signal in STF #2417... Batgirl joined them for an adventure in STF #938... They met when Dick Grayson became Nightwing in STF #87...  and Spidey even helped train Tim Drake to take over the Robin role in STF #838... they met when Robin was in the original Teen Titans in STF #619... and again in the New Teen Titans in STF #767...  not to mention when their successors met up in STF#529  and continued their adventure in STF #530...

Captain America and Plastic Man

So, what's the deal with Plastic Man's goggles?  I had always assumed that like the rest of his costume, they were a permanent part of him as part of his condition - I had never seen him without them on.  But lately, I have seen a few artists depicting him without the goggles or at least lifting them up -  so has he been able to remove them this whole time or is that a new development?

Black Canary Vs. Bullseye

The first images and set photos from Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) have been released, and I can't say I am impressed with what I am seeing.  Quinn herself looks OK, but Black Canary, Huntress and Black Mask are unrecognizable.  It doesn't seem liked DC is learning anything form the success of Wonder Woman and Aquaman, which more closely embraced their comic book roots. Frankly this looks like a cheap TV series so far, hopefully as more is released I will be proven wrong.

The Crimson Avenger and Dick Tracy

I liked The Crimson Avenger when I was a kid, but he didn't really stand out among the other non-powered Golden Age heroes for me.  That all changed when I read his appearance in a Whatever Happened To... tale in an issue of DC Comics Presents.  In just a few pages, we were treated to the tale of his final, self-sacrificing adventure.  It made a huge impact on me, and I have always made a point to check out his appearances since then.

Amanda Waller in The Marvel Universe

I was looking forward to seeing Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad, but like Superman, DC seems to have gone darker than I preferred with the cinematic version of one of their print heroes.  I know that Waller is tough as nails and will go to extremes to further her goals, but even so, I thought it was a step top far to see her kill a group of her own men just to keep secrets.  That just made her look like a cold blooded killer, which I never felt she was in the comics.

Hercules Vs. Orion

This would be a fun match up.  The sons of Zeus and Darkseid not only each possess incredible strength, they both have a real appreciation for combat - Orion, because he was bred for battle and Hercules because he just really likes fighting.  It wouldn't take much to get them to face off.

Green Arrow & Black Canary and Hawkeye & Mockingbird

Now that *** SPOILER for Arrow fans who aren't caught up **** the death that has been teased all of the current season was revealed to be Laurel Lance, the (second) Black Canary, the series could go a few ways.  Laurel whispered something to Ollie before she was declared dead, so the whole thing could be a fake by the two of them, which would anger fans I think.  Felicity could be come the new Black Canary, which would anger fans even more. Maybe they will just give the character a rest.  What I hope will happen, though, is that by next season Caity Lotz will return from her time on DC's Legends of Tomorrow as the White Canary and reclaim her role as the Original Black Canary.  I always prefered her in the role anyway.

Although this is the first appearance of all of these heroes together, Black Canary and Mockingbird have crossed paths before on the blog.  Green Arrow and Hawkeye have met a few times - They first met in one of my very earliest STF covers... then they were at odds with a few fellow Avengers along for the tale... Next up they faced off against The Hulk and Solomon Grundy... and the last time we saw them it was time to hone their skills...

Arrow had it's season premiere yesterday and it looks to be a fun season.  The flashback sequences have changed from the island and we were introduced to the future Katana.  In the present day scenes, the future Atom showed up as well.  Watching Oliver and Roy work as a functional team was nice to see at last as well.  Between Arrow, Gotham and The Flash, DC has got some great TV programming right now.  Hopefully Constantine will continue the trend.

Wonder Woman and The Wasp

I first took notice of Cliff Chiang's artwork in the Josie Mac backups he did for Detective Comics, and I became an instant fan.  He has a great, clean design sense and he has the ability to depict characters with realistic proportions who nonetheless come off as heroic.  His work on DC's Dr. Thirteen really let him show his versatility, with so many disparate characters.  Chiang also draws some of the best looking women in comics currently, I love his takes on Wonder Woman, Zatanna and the Black Canary especially.

Green Arrow and Red Sonja

Green Arrow has been known to be quite the ladies' man, so I wanted to create a cover where that trait might be backfiring against him.  I think any man would reconsider their "love'em and leave 'em" ways after attempting to jilt the she-devil with a sword!  I could have told him that redheads had fiery tempers!  At any rate, the events of this issue will have repercussions, as you will see in part two tomorrow...

The Thing and Hawk and Dove

Hawk and Dove have recently been given a new lease on life (literally!) in the pages of Brightest Day and Birds of Prey. I always liked these characters so I am glad that they have been brought back. It will be interesting to see where writers like Gail Simone and Geoff Johns take them. Currently Dove has started up a relation ship with Deadman, Boston Brand - I wonder if that is something that will stick. Whatever happens, I will continue to follow these characters, their interesting and conflicting personalities as well as their cool costumes make for enjoyable reading.
