Iron Man and Robocop

Robocop was the closest thing we had to an Iron Man movie until the real thing came along a couple of decades later, so this seems like a natural combination to me.  Watching these two in action side by side would make for a fun summertime flick.

Rambo and 4 Famous Co-Stars

Now this is the type of Super-Team cartoon I would have loved back in the day.  The biggest action stars of my youth working together, count me in.  Heck, let's consider that to be the shark from Jaws up there and throw him into the mix!

Robocop and Dirty Harry

Robocop's partners seemed to have a tough time keeping up with him, and Harry Callahan's partners often didn't even survive the movies they were in.   Perhaps the most effective team would have them working alongside one another.  I know that if these two were patrolling my neighborhood, I'd make sure to not so much as even jaywalk.  I wouldn't want to get on their bad side.

Robocop and The Atom

The Atom is yet another DC character that has a movie in the planning stages.  It's very early yet, so we don't know if the film will focus on Ray Palmer, Ryan Choi or both.  I'm guessing Choi, but I hope that Palmer will still be involved somehow, perhaps in a mentorship role.   Also not clear yet is if this will be a theatrical release or go directly to HBO Max.  Let's just hope the movie actually gets underway, too many DC projects are announced and then just seem to disappear,

Robocop, Groot and Rocket Raccoon

I remember first seeing Robocop on the big screen.  In those pre-Batman 1989 days, it was the closest thing to a big superhero movie out there.  My friends and I decided to watch it at a drive-in theater.  We were quite enjoying it when for some reason, the sound cut out half way through.  When we went to the front office to complain, nobody was there!  It would be years before I rented a copy and finally saw the end of the movie.

Robocop and The Punisher

I was watching a commentary on Star Wars: Rogue One last night and a comment was made about how Darth Vader moved around with slow deliberate confidence, he was powerful and capable enough that he did not need to run.  Robocop strikes me the same way.  It's cool to see him slowly and effectively dispatch his opponents.  It would just seem wrong to watch him ever break into a full trot.

Robocop on The Planet of the Apes

I am looking forward to War for the Planet of the Apes, as I have really been enjoying the new Apes franchise so far.  Matt Reeves did a nice job expanding the world of the film in the last outing and I expect him to do so again, given the all-out war theme.  I like his visual style and action sequences, so I am very interested in what he is going to do with The Batman once that film finally gets underway.

Wolverine and Robocop

A teaser trailer for Logan has been released and it looks to be quite different than any other cinematic Wolverine story that we have seen so far.  It will be interesting to see Hugh Jackman's final performance as the character in what seems to be more of a grounded western than the usual mutant-filled affair. I am glad we will see Patrick Stewart's Professor X one more time as well - even if he doesn't look in very good shape in the footage that has been released.

Iron Man and Robocop

While it is certainly a change from the classic origin, I thought that involving Tony Stark in the development of Spider-Man's uniform in Captain America: Civil War was a smart move.  It kept Peter Parker the perpetually broke teen from Queens while allowing him to wear a suit that looked like it leapt right out of the comics, emotive eyes and all.  Iron Man will be a part of Spider-Man: Homecoming as well - with rumored upgrades to the Spidey suit including the classic web-wings!  That's something I have wanted to see in live action for a long time.

Robocop and Futurama

The sign of a good animated series is whether the episodes stand up to repeated viewings. Futurama definitely succeeds when it comes to that metric.  The shows are so packed with verbal and visual gags that I can enjoy visiting them again and again. Certain episodes like "The Problem with Popplers" are so perfect that I have seen them several times over and they still manage to make me laugh.

Robocop and Deathlok

I want to love Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on TV, I really do.  Instead, I only just like it.  Mainly because they keep teasing cool concepts only to present them in a lackluster way.  They had been hinting at Mr. Hyde all season, but when Calvin Zabo made his transformation, he looked like something out of the 70's Hulk TV show.  The worst offence is with Deathlok.  I have always been a fan of the character, but the watered down version they present on the show is a real disappointment.  At least they did an OK job with The Absorbing Man.

Robocop Vs. Judge Dredd

When STF Patron Tom Zilla suggested this pairing, I was kind of surprised I hadn't featured it yet.  Dredd and Robocop do seem to be a natural team-up.  A pretty close battle as well - I'm really not sure who would come out on top if these two were at odds.  I would be a blast to read anout, tnough!  Thanks for the inspiration, Tom!

Green Arrow Vs. Robocop

This is a match up I would like to see.  Both of these guys want to clean up the city but Oliver Queen has never responded well to authority figures and Robocop has no tolerance for law breakers of any kind, so there would definitely be plenty of friction between the two.

The Avengers and Star Trek (And More!)

Some quick thoughts on the stars of today's anniversary cover:

With Disney now owning both The Avengers and the Star Wars universe, those two are more likely to meet than those in the main story.  Still I'd love to see Kirk and Cap clash in their leadership styles, while Iron Man and Scotty put their heads together in Engineering.  Spock and Vision would get along well, but Thor and Bones might get on one another's nerves... some fun story potential there!

I never watched Thundercats when it first aired, but I did catch the newer series and I thought it was pretty fun.  it's too bad that it was discontinued.  The last time I saw Wolverine animated was in the Hulk Vs. Wolverine short - probably the best Marvel related animated feature out there.  I'm sure we'll see a cartoon Logan again before too long.

I haven't kept up with the comics - Has Banshee returned from the dead yet?  I figured he might have a chance as he is a member of the X-Men: First Class films.  There aren't enough red headed heroes out there - we lost Ralph Dibny, we can't lose Banshee too!  Black Canary has recently been featured on Arrow, and it's quite an improvement on her previous live appearances in Birds of Prey and Smallville.  I hope she becomes a regular part of the show.

From the trailers for the Robocop remake, it looks slickly made with a great cast... and utterly pointless.  Seems crazy to me to try and redo a film that is still held in such high regard, and I think that it will suffer the same fate as the recent Total Recall remake.  Deathlok is a Marvel property that would work perfectly for the big screen, and I hope that something is in the works with this great Bronze Age hero.

Robotman and Robocop

Marvel just wrapped up another Ultron epic and it is good to see him and Hank Pym in the spotlight again.  Ultron is easily my favorite Avengers villain and I really want to see him adapted to the big screen - hopefully this new focus is the first indication of that becoming a reality.

Robocop will be heading back into theaters with a rebooted version soon.  There is some impressive talent involved, but I can't help but worry that this will be another Total Recall type unnecessary redo.  I hope I will be proven wrong, and I will try to keep an open mind until I see some actual footage.

Robocop Vs. Spider-Man

I'm not sure what to make of the upcoming Robocop movie reboot.  It has a decent cast, so there's a chance that it could far surpass my expectations, but I still think it is facing an uphill battle.  The original film is still held in high regard and it is going to be tough to get out from under its shadow.  Shots of the new Robocop design reveal quite a departure from the classic look - the imposing, bulky suit has been replaced with a sleek, black and frankly more generic outfit.  I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the final product, but I fear tat my reaction will be similar to when I recently saw the new version of Total Recall  - a film with some technical merit, but lacking the charm of the original, feeling like an unnecessary retread.

The Thing and Robocop

From what I read online, it sounds like a new Robocop film is indeed in the planning stages. I am looking forward to seeing what happens with this. I thought that the first film was a ton of fun, but the sequels did not live up to it (despite involvement by Frank Miller) and the short-lived TV series that followed was very much a watered down version. I can still remember the first time I saw the movie poster for the original - this was in a time where there was far less advance press or hype for upcoming films so it caught me completely by surprise. "Part man. Part machine. All Cop!" I was sold right there!

Batman and Robocop

Thia is one team up that I would actually like to see in live action! I have heard rumors that the Robocop film franchise is in development for a return, and I hope it happens. It would be interesting to see him back on the screen with today's special effects. I still remember going to see the first movie at a drive-in theater. The sound broke down halfway through and when we went to complain, we found that the owners had left for the night! It would be a couple of years before I heard the complete movie.
