Daredevil & The Black Widow and The Spectre

I saw a chance to do a Gene Colan inspired cover and I went for it.  Colan is one of those artists that I did not appreciate as a kid, but now I recognize as one of the best and most unique in the art form.

Daredevil first met The Spectre in STF #3067...

Brother Voodoo and The Phantom Stranger

The Phantom Stranger is a character that I really hope shows up on screen in the new DCU.  I can see him showing up as a supporting character in multiple films.  It would be a great role for an actor to have fun with, but who best to cast?

Captain Marvel and Howard the Duck

Captain Marvel is no stranger to talking animals as allies, and has his own roster of bizarre villains, so a team up with Howard The Duck wouldn't seem all that out of place for him.  I think that a writer could have a lot of fun telling this tale.

Brother Voodoo and Hellboy

Has anybody checked out the Hellboy: The Crooked Man movie?  The reviews that I saw during its brief run said that the limited budget was very noticeable, but that the story was pretty faithful to the comics. I couldn't even finish the previous David Harbour Hellboy movie, so I hope it is better than that.

Red Tornado and Human Torch Vs. Terrax

Red Tornado and Johnny Storm were two of the heroes that Jamie Madrox used the H-Dial to become in STF #4496, and I thought it would be cool for them to actually share an adventure together.  I needed an Earth-based villain, and Terrax suited the job nicely.

7 Soldiers of Victory and The Defenders

Uh oh! Mr. Universe is back for his 4th appearance and he looks more powerful than ever!  Let's hope the combined might of these two super-teams is enough to put him down for good!

Blade and Blue Devil

I can see Blade taking a look at Dan Cassidy's fangs and being a bit suspicious.  It might be fun to see these two share an adventure.  They are both used to dealing with the supernatural, but go at it with completely different attitudes.

Legion of Super-Heroes and Daredevil

I remember loving the first Secret Wars mini-series, but it did have one glaring flaw.  If this was really supposed to be a team up of all of Marvel's big stars, I think that Daredevil should have been included.  Probably Power Man and Iron Fist as well, but definitely DD.  It was just as big an omission as when Hal Jordan was completely left out of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Superboy

Superman (formerly Superman: Legacy) has officially begun filming. It will be interesting to see how the Man of Steel's status as Earth's premiere hero will be presented, given that it doesn't look like he will have been the first costumed crimefighter in operation, never mind having a previous career as Superboy.  This seems like a passion project for Director and Writer James Gunn, so I will remain cautiously optimistic about how it all turns out.

Vixen and Hercules in: "Stone Love!"

For this, the 12th appearance of Hercules and Vixen together, it looks as though they have run afoul of The Grey Gargoyle.  That guy used to really creep me out when I was a kid.  Being turned to stone seemed like a fate worse than death.  At least it was eventually reversible, unlike the same effect from the Greek god Medusa.

Sasquatch and Robin

Poison Ivy is a great Batman villain, and I'm not crazy when writers try to redeem her or present her as some kind of anti-hero.  I've seen her murder too many poeple to want have to root for her now. This seems to be a pattern with Batman's female adversaries - Catwoman, Talia, Harley Quinn... as soon as they start to get really popular, their bad sides are softened and they become more close to allies.  Next thing you know, Nocturna and Magpie are gonna be given keys to the Bat-Cave!

Doctor Strange and Swamp Thing in: "Unchecked Growth!"

There have been some rumors that Bill Skarsgaard is up for the role of Alec Holland/Swamp Thing in the new DCU movies.  I'm only familiar with his work in the It movies, but he was pretty good in those.  We'll see if we get any official announcements regarding casting soon.

Doctor Strange and Swamp Thing were last together facing demons in STF #941 and first met in STF #227...

Howard The Duck and The Spectre

Sharp eyed viewers glimpsed Howard The Duck showing up with all the returning heroes in the finale of Avengers: Endgame.  He wasn't at Tony Stark's funeral, so where did he go from there.  Did he return to space with The Ravagers, possibly setting up an appearance in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film?  Perhaps he stayed on Earth to begin some adventures there.  The point is, he could really show up anywhere now, so where would you like to see him?  I wouldn't mind seeing him and She-Hulk get involved in a case together at some point.

Agatha Harkness and Alfred

Agatha: Coven of Chaos looks to be a fun series and is about to start shooting.  The addition of Aubrey Plaza has me interested, especially that she is rumored to be playing Morgaine Le Fay. How will Agatha escape Wanda's spell?  Will Wanda appear?  Unfortunately it sounds like the show maybe pushed back to 2024, so it may be a while before we find out.

Spider-Woman and Black Canary

Sony really wants to explore its roster of Spider-Man related characters.  We've seen two Venom movies plus Morbius, and now Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web are in production.  The obvious question that comes to mind is - where is word of a Spider-Woman movie?  I'd think she would get the nod before more solo villain stories.

Howard the Duck and The Flash

Speculation but possible SPOILERS for the FLASH movie follow:

From set footage and cryptic comments by actors, the villain for the upcoming Flash movie is becoming clear and it's kind of a surprising one.  I had assumed The Reverse Flash would be involved somehow, but it looks like they are going in a slightly different direction by having Barry Allen dealing with a duplicate of himself.  We have seen the stand-in sharing scenes, dressed to look identical to Ezra Miller (except with yellow lining on his sneaker rather than the Red that Miller is wearing, hmmm...).  I'm not sure how I feel about this - I am not a big fan of Miller in the title role, so two of him doesn't really help things in my eyes.  Still, this is all speculation, we probably won't get any concrete answers until the DC Fandome presentation in a few months.

Wonder Man and Martian Manhunter

Oh, that's gonna leave a mark. I'd be up for a Wonder Man Disney+ show starring Nathan Fillion - what say you?  He was fun in The Suicide Squad but deserves a bigger spotlight.

Wonder man here is by the legendary Gene Colan and Scorch is by the amazing Ed McGuiness - I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up a sketch by each of them several years back:

Juggernaut Vs. Solomon Grundy

Just as the title suggests, I think that this would be a pretty even battle. Since Solomon Grundy is repeatedly reborn, each time with incredible power, can he be considered a mutant?

Thanks to Thrawn7, a Patron of this blog, for suggesting this battle...

Swamp Thing and The Invisible Girl

Presenting Part Two of our Three-Part Epic.  As many of you may have suspected, the Mole Man's offer was not as benevolent as it may have seemed.  Good thing Sue Storm was keeping an invisible eye out for any shenanigans! Be sure to come back tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion!

Howard the Duck enters The House of Mystery

As I kid, I liked the fact that DC's horror titles would mix a little humor in with the scary goings-on. Giving Sergio Aragones a page or two to do his thing, or having Cain make darkly funny introductions to the stories and torment his brother Abel helped to offset some of the dark themes within.  It was a mix that worked for me and helped make the tales of murder and evil deeds more palatable.
