Booster Gold and Futurama

 

I've been checking out the new episodes of Futurama on Hulu, and it's good to see the old gang back together. It's pretty cool that the show has now returned twice after being off the air for several years in between seasons.  I'm glad everything worked out and the full voice cast came back, it wouldn't have been the same without all of them.

Bender and Iron Man

 

Futurama is back after several years with brand new episodes on Hulu.  I am looking forward to checking them out.  The original series run is one of the best cartoons ever made and I hope that they can maintain the high standard that was set.  The entire voice cast has returned, which is a big plus.

Legion of Super-Heroes and Futurama

 

I was very happy to read that contract negotiations were successful and the entire voice cast of Futurama is returning for new episodes of the series. I can't wait to see what the new episodes have in store and I look forward to seeing old favorites like Clamps and The Hedonism Bot.

I'm also glad to use the animated LSH here.   That cartoon was a lot of fun, and kept getting better as it went along for its too-short run.

Futurama and Rick And Morty

I saw the suggestion to for this match-up in the comments section and I couldn't resist.  Futurama was one of my all time favorite cartoons, with more humor, heart and far out concepts included in each episode than I could count, making it quite re-watchable as well.  It wasn't until Rick and Morty came along that I found another animated series to compare to it.  It's another show will all those elements and has been a joy to watch.  I'm hoping they are hard at work on new episodes right now.

The Jetsons and Futurama

This is a team up I would love to see in real life.  I think there is even a connection there - just look at George and Fry.  Red hair, a cowlick in the back, an overbite... perhaps there is a familial relationship there that we aren't aware of.  I can see Bender and Rosie really hitting it off as well.

Robocop and Futurama

The sign of a good animated series is whether the episodes stand up to repeated viewings. Futurama definitely succeeds when it comes to that metric.  The shows are so packed with verbal and visual gags that I can enjoy visiting them again and again. Certain episodes like "The Problem with Popplers" are so perfect that I have seen them several times over and they still manage to make me laugh.

The Green Lantern Corps and Futurama

Futurama, in my opinion, is one of the greatest animated series ever.  It had a great cast of characters brought to life with excellent voice work and a setting that allowed the writers to fill their episodes with tons of sight gags and Easter eggs in addition to humorously inventive plots.  The episodes were often touching and thought provoking as well. The series has come back to life twice after I thought it completed, so maybe there's a chance that it may return again one of these days.  Until then I will enjoy re-watching old seasons.

The Saturn 6

Just because you are tasked with protecting the cosmos, it doesn't mean that you can't do it with an enjoyment of the job and a healthy dose of humor.  That's the idea behind this team.  I think the biggest challenge that they might face is determining who to lead the group - they all seem to be the type that are more comfortable with handing out orders rather than following them.

Ultron and Bender

I thoroughly enjoyed the recent Futurama crossover episode of The Simpsons.  I remember a fun comic book version of this meeting from years back that I loved, and I wondered why it took so long for a TV version.  It was worth the wait, with a ton of great gags - starting with one of my personal favorite characters, the Hedonism Bot, filling in on the weekly opening credits couch gag. It made me miss the Futurama gang, I'd love to see them defy the odds and return for a third time.

Galactus Vs. Zapp Brannigan!

I was a huge fan of Futurama, and episodes featuring Zapp Brannigan were always among my favorites.  In a show chock full of interesting and humorous concepts, I think that Zapp has the greatest potential for a spin-off show.  His brash yet daft personality coupled with the great voice work of Billy West (doing a Phil Hartman-esque riff on a Captain Kirk type) make Zapp one of the more memorable animated creations of the last few years for me.

Doop and Nibbler / Ch'p and Squirrel Girl

I thought I would throw together some of my favorite lower-profile characters on this cover.  Nibbler started out as a cute pet on Futurama, and was eventually revealed to be one of the most pivotal characters on the show.  Doop, the breakout star from Marvel's X-Statix, looks to be making a small comeback soon.  Squirrel Girl is one of the more inventive and unique Marvel heroines and her appearances are always fun.  Ch'p was a cool GL and I never quite forgave DC for running him over with a truck in Green Lantern: Mosaic.

Bonus points if you can properly translate Doop's speech balloon!

Booster Gold and Kang

Time travel in comics and films can be a tricky thing.  Each time it is presented as a story element, the laws of time travelling are slightly different.  The key is in setting down ground rules for your story and then sticking to them.  The Characters presented on this cover are some examples of where the plot device has been used effectively, for action, humor or both.  One can only imagine what kind of trouble they would stir up if they all shared an adventure together.

The Thing and Futurama

I am a big fan of Futurama, it's one of the few cartoons that can be guaranteed to make me laugh out loud. I was disappointed when it was taken off the air because I thought due to its ever shifting time slots, it never got the chance to find the audience that it deserved. Fortunately the DVD sales were strong enough to warrant it's return. I liked the the direct to DVD movies that were released, but I was really impressed when the half hour episodes came back on Comedy Central last year. They were some of the best that the series had ever produced, in my opinion, matching "The Problem With Popplers" (my all-time favorite episode) in quality. My only complaint was that the new season was so short. I look forward to more new adventures later this year.
