Nova and Stargirl

The Stargirl series was a lot of fun.  I'm not holding my breath waiting for the character to show up in the DCU, though.  I assume that it will take a few years to establish a Justice League, let alone introduce the JSA and their spin-off characters.  As for Nova, Frankie Raye will probably be considered too close to Shalla Bal to be a candidate for entry into the MCU any time soon.

Coming tomorrow:  STF #4900!

Nova and Stargirl

He's back and badder than ever!  That's right - Earth STF's greatest menace, Mr. Universe, returns for his 11th appearance to vex a couple of young heroes.  Let's hope that they have better luck than the rest in putting this guy away for good!

Robin and The New Warriors

This is another cover which required a lot of de-cluttering and extension before I could add in any new elements.  Here is a look at the behind the scenes process:

Wildfire and Nova

Sure, it was cool back in the day when Karate Kid was sent back from the 30th Century to our time for a series of adventures - but I wished that other members of the Legion of Super-Heroes had been able to do the same.  Wildfire would have been at the top of my list, I just thought that he was so cool.

Red Tornado and Nova

Red Tornado already has the power of The Tornado Tyrant within him, as told when his origin was fleshed out in one of my favorite JLA tales.  Getting an infusion from Galactus would really put him over the top.  It would be interesting to see what the ramifications of such a change would be.

Green Lantern and Nova in: "That's No Moon!"

Hal Jordan met the Richard Ryder Nova way back in STF #121, and I thought it was time that he met the Franke Raye version. I wonder how close the Shalla-Bal Silver Surfer from the upcoming Fantastic Four movie will be visually to this iteration of the Galcatus Herald.

Firehawk and Nova

We will be seeing a female Silver Surfer in Shalla Bal for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.  Like many, I wonder why they aren't using the Frankie Raye Nova, who became a herald to Galactus in the comics.  Yes, I know that Shalla Bal had the power of the Silver Surfer for a handful of pages in the alternate world mini-series Earth X (and then was killed off), but it still seems like an odd choice.  Superman had a giant red ant head for an issue once, but I don't expect to see him look like that in the movies after all.

The Legion of Super-Heroes and The New Warriors

Well, this certainly looks like it will be a crowded issue.  Let's hope that the LSH and their time traveling visitors can stop tripping over each other long enough to face of against whatever threat has brought them together!

The New Warriors Vs. Darkseid

Marvel seems intent on bringing the Young Avengers to the MCU.  That's all good and well, but these guys are the teen Marvel team that I'd really like to see join the fun.  I think their series sold a lot better than any of the Young Avengers titles, after all.

Nova and The Creeper

I recently saw a request to pair these two together due to them having similar last names.  The names are only phonetically the same, but I thought it would still be cool to see them in an adventure side by side. Add in one malicious mechanical menace and a story starts to form...

Robin and Nova

Nova is one of the Marvel characters that I was able to follow from his very first appearance, so I have been waiting for him to finally be added to the MCU.  Will Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 be the place where he is finally introduced?  I haven't heard anything about that, but there will be a space to be filled for cosmic action once that trilogy concludes.  Let's hope that Nova is part of the next generation of big screen cosmic heroes.

Nova first met Robin along with the rest of the New Teen Titans in STF 497...

Nova and Raven

Raven has a demonic, conquering father to contend with, so she might be more prepared for a battle with Thanos than most.  He seems susceptible to appeals to his emotions, and her soul self might give him some difficulty.  Of course, Psimon influencing him as well would be an issue - let's hope Nova recovers in time to lend a hand.

Vigilante and Nova

This is the kind of oddball team up that I really liked to see as a kid. These are two heroes that I would have never put together, but upon seeing them in an action scene, I'd simply have to find out just what was going on.

Time for another behind the scenes peek.  Vigilante's original partner in this scene had to be removed and replaced - not to mention his lasso... here's a look at the process:

Nova and Captain Kirk

I've been looking for more Star Trek content to watch, but the new shows on Paramount+ have not really grabbed me.  I did find a great substitute though - The Orville: New Horizons on Hulu.  I enjoyed The Orville when it appeared on Fox a few years back, but this new iteration of the series is even better.  The cast is largely the same, but there are three big differences: Longer episodes, a clearly bigger budget and the humor is dialed way down, making it more of a straight sci fi show.  I highly recommend it.

Static Joins The New Warriors

With the introductions of America Chavez and Kamala Khan to the MCU, there's been a lot of discussion about Marvel setting up a team of Young Avengers.  That's sounds good, but what about the teen team that predated them?  New Warriors always had an interesting cast of characters, and it would be cool to see them in live action some day.

Guy Gardner and Nova

Every time I see Sean William Scott on a commercial for the new show Welcome to Flatch, I think of what a missed opportunity it is that he has not been cast as Guy Gardner for the in-development Green Lantern Corps series on HBO Max.  I just think he has the perfect look for the role and has proven himself adept at  action and comedy in his previous work.  Finn Wittrock is the one who has actually landed the role, an actor that I am not familiar with.  Let's hope he brings DC comics' favorite lovable jerk to effectively to life.

Nova meets Bulletman & Bulletgirl

It sounds like Marvel may finally be preparing a Nova movie.  The studio has reserved a few release dates for untitled movies a few years down the road and there is a lot of speculation that Nova will be joining the likes of Blade and The Fantastic Four in taking up one of those slots. Let's hope we get some concrete confirmation soon, along with hints as to what direction the movie will go in.

Justice League of America and Nova

The Grey Gargoyle was a cool villain, if only because imagining being turned to stone was a frightening prospect to me as a young comics reader.   I did have one question about his costume, though.  It was cool that he appeared to be made of or at least covered with stone, but the cape confused me.  It appeared to fold and flow like normal cloth.  It seemed to me that it should have been at least somewhat rigid (or not included at all).

Nova and The Flash in: "Fleet Week!"

OK, Supergirl has been pretty much sidelined so far in her final season, The Cast of Black Lightning has lost their powers and The Flash barely ever uses his speed anymore.  What's going on with the CW shows - budget crunch?

Nova and The Flash shared a bronze age adventure in STF #2613...

I am always happy to feature the artwork of Carlos Pacheco on this blog - Here's a page of his I picked up many years back from his FF run:

Starman and Nova

I enjoyed the Will Payton Starman series.  It was just great old school super-heroics, and with the always reliable Roger Stern on writing chores, it was a fun, if overlooked, series.  The unattractive costume color scheme from the first two years did not help, Starman looked much better once he switched to the red and black version.  He reminded me a little of Richard Rider, so this might be a fun pairing to see.
