The Falcon Vs. Deathstroke in: "The Wilson War Rages On!"

 

These two first battled in STF #3976..., and I thought that it was time for a rematch. It looks like this time there might be a greater for for both of them to battle together.  It might be interesting to see them forced to work together.

Elektra Vs. Deathstroke

 

I'll never forget when Bill Sienkiewicz took over the art chores on New Mutants back in the day.  It seemed so jarring a change as compared to the artwork that preceded it, but I was curious enough to check it out.  It read like a movie to me, I was surprised how well it worked. 

Sabretooth Vs. Deathstroke

 

This is a villain match up that I have been meaning to get to for a while now.  Both are highly skilled combatants with healing factors.  Sabretooth may heal even faster than Slade, but Slade has the edge as far as knowledge of different fighting techniques go.  Who do you think would come out on top?

The were lots of rumors about a Ben Affleck-starring Batman movie which would have featured the Dark Knight up against Deathstroke.  Those plans seem to have gone away now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge of the DCU.  That's OK with me - I much prefer to see Deathstroke as a foil for Dick Grayson and the New Teen Titans anyway.  Still, it seems like this new DCU is skipping right to Damien Wayne (& Nightwing possibly), so who knows if we will ever get a proper Titans movie anyway?

Moon Knight Vs. Deathstroke in: "Crashing the Assassination!"

 

I've been meaning to feature a cover that combines images by the amazing Bill Sienkiewicz for a while now.  Nothing ever quite came together because his unique style it tougher to blend than most, even with himself. I'm definitely not 100% satisfied with how this one came out, but I am glad I finally gave it a try.

Deathstroke and Black Widow

 

The line up for the Thunderbolts movie has been announced, and with a line up that includes Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, The Contessa, Winter Soldier, USAgent and Ghost, it feels like it will pretty much be a sequel to Black Widow, with a few other characters thrown in.  I would have preferred Marvel started with the Citizen-V led team of masquerading villains from the comics, but it will be interesting to see what is done with this group.

Iron Fist Vs. Deathstroke

 

Deathstroke is a character that I prefer to see used as a full-on villain.  There have been some attempts to cast him in an anti-hero role, but that never sits well with me.  I saw him commit too many despicable acts in the pages of New Teen Titans and elsewhere to ever want to have to root for him in  a story.  I'm all for a good redemption arc in comics, but it has to be done with the right character.

Kingpin Vs. Deathstroke

Bad guys killing of their own henchmen is a staple of heroic fiction, and The Kingpin is no exception to that rule.  It might be interesting to see him try and pull that move on an assassin for hire that doesn't go down that easily.  Deathstroke's skill set against The Kingpin's vast resources could make for an exciting battle.

Black Panther Vs. Deathstroke in: "Regicide Play!"

Sometimes when a villain gets really popular, attempts are made to make them more sympathetic and turn them into more of an anti-hero.  Sometimes that works for me, but I've never really gotten into seeing Slade Wilson try and be redeemed.  I viewed him as downright evil when he first appeared in New Teen Titans, and that's the way I prefer he stays.

Black Panther Vs. Deathstroke in: "Contract on a King!"

Will we see a caped Black Panther when he next appears on the big screen?  I'm sure that Shuri could design one with a tactical ability that he can use to give it a purpose beyond looking cool.

Deathstroke Vs. Daredevil in: "The Trial of Joseph Wilson!"

Even though the last episode of Netflix' Daredevil wrapped things up well, it's still too bad that the show has gone away, given the tease of a fully formed Bullseye at the end.  I did miss seeing Matt Murdock in the red costume, which never happened in Season Three, and definitely wanted more of that as well.  Like the X-Men, I guess we'll just have to give DD's world a rest for a few years, and then see what Marvel decides to do with it around Phase Six or so.

Black Widow Vs. Deathstroke

Natasha is clearly referring here to the events of STF #2377...

We have seen Deathstroke in live action before,  but my favorite stories of his feature him up against The New Teen Titans, particularly The Judas Contract.  Maybe DC Streaming Service will feature an adaptation of that on Titans if the series continues.  The animated version was OK, but I'd lilk to see something closer to the comics version.

Deathstroke Vs. Taskmaster (Round Two!)

It looks like we won't be seeing Deathstroke on the big screen again any time soon, despite the post credits sequence  on Justice League.  I wasn't really interested in seeing him as the main guiy in a Batman movie anyway.  Maybe now the character will be freed up for use on Titans for the DC streaming service, where he belongs.

Deathstroke Vs. Moon Knight

This could be an interesting match-up.  Deathstroke takes pride in being able to anticipate his opponents every move, and counter accordingly.  Moon Knight, with his shifting personalities, might have an extra layer of unpredictability to offset such an advantage.  I'm thinking it would be pretty close.

Deathstroke Vs. Daredevil and Black Widow

It looks like a solo Black Widow film is finally going to happen.  Knowing Marvel, there will be other heroes that show up, and I am looking forward to hearing what other characters will fill out the cast.   Could this possibly be a chance to unite Marvel's cinematic world with its Netflix shows, and bring in Daredevil for a scene or two?  I'm sure that's a long shot but one can always hope.  I loved their comics together and would love to see their partnership represented on the big screen.

Black Panther Vs. Deathstroke

This is a match up that I would like to see.  Not many villains are able to match the fighting abilities of Black Panther, but Deathstroke would probably give him quite a challenge.  Now, having the battle on T'Challa's home turf is a miscalculation on Deathstroke's part, as it certainly gives the Wakandan King the edge - but Slade Wilson does his homework and wouldn't go into a fight without setting up some advantages of his own.

Wolverine Vs. Deathstroke

These two tangled before, back in X-Men and The New Teen Titans - but their encounters were fleeting, just a panel or two.  It would be very cool to see them truly go head to head for a full issue.  My money's always on Logan, but it would be a fun fight to watch.  Thank you to Joe Carey, a Patron of this blog, for suggesting this match up.

Deathstroke Vs. Captain America in: "Second Strike!"

The above cover is of course referring to the events of STF #381...

I am very curious as to the fate of Captain America in the Marvel cinematic universe.  I think that the upcoming Avengers movies will complete Chris Evans contract in the role, and I have not heard anything about a fourth solo film.  I am really hoping he is not killed off or replaced somehow as so often happens in the comics.  Evans is still young enough to perform the role for years to come and the Captain America series has been the strongest of the Marvel franchises so far, in my opinion.

The Phoenix and Deathstroke

Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie will start filming next year, and little is known about the plot other than that it will feature Deathstroke.  I am trying to think of comic stories that featured the two up against each other, but other than a few guest appearances, there isn't a whole lot.  I am assuming, then, that we will see a completely original tale.  I have liked Affleck's previous scripts, so I am optimistic that we will see a bat-flick unlike any other.

Deathstroke Vs. The Hulk

It has been announced that Joe Manganiello has been tapped to play Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's upcoming solo Batman film, and may appear in Justice League before that.  I think he is a great choice for the role but I must say I am surprised that the Slade Wilson will be used for those films as I have always considered him a New Teen Titans villain first and foremost. I guess they didn't want to wait that long to use him.  Oh well, there's still the Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated film to look forward to.
