Doctor Light, Godzilla and Sunfire

This cover comes from a suggestion by Bob Greenwade, frequent commenter and a Patron of this Blog.  I think Bob may have wanted to see our two heroes battle the King of all Monsters, and I figure a scene like that would take place early in this issue - but I'd hope such a tale would focus on the three of them joining forces against a larger threat.

The Thing Vs. Doctor Light

Hopefully Ben Grimm ha had enough sparring sessions with Sue Storm that he is able to still face off against an opponent that he can't see!  Villains always seem to underestimate The Thing - they assume he's all muscle, but I've seen him use a lot of strategy over the years as well.

Captain Marvel and Doctor Light

This cover required a little bit of clean-up work before I could change the wielder of the energy blast.  here's a peek behind the scenes:

The Shroud Vs. Doctor Light

The Shroud seemed like another Marvel Batman knock off to me when he first appeared, but he has managed to carve out his own identity.  I always enjoy the concept of a hero embedding himself with villains and biding their time for the perfect time to strike.  I've lost track of him recently, The last time I remember reading about him he was a little off his rocker in the pages of Daredevil.

The Light Brigade Vs. Dark Matter (and more!)

Since the timing for a new Team Cover coincides with an Anniversary Issue, I thought that it was only fitting that I had two STF teams facing off against one another.  Combining the 4th appearance of The Light Brigade with the 3rd appearance of Dark Matter seemed like natural choices given their opposite natures and the Cloak & Dagger connection.  For the back-up tale, I finally teamed Batman with comics' first character, something I have been meaning to do for years.

Iron Man Vs. Doctor Light

I am always happy to use an Iron Man image featuring the talented artwork of Bob Layton.  There's something about how he makes it shine that puts his depiction above all others for me.  Many years back, I commissioned an Iron Man vs. Dr. Doom illustration from him, and he went above and beyond and recreated an entire classic cover for me.  I could never afford an actual cover original, so receiving this was a real treat:

Spider-Man and The Secret Society of Super-Villains

This is a story I could see working.   Spider-Man has often been unjustly tagged as a criminal, and it would be cool to see him use that status to go undercover in the underworld - sort of a reverse Thunderbolts set up.  I'm sure there's some real life comic book equivalent of this plot, but I can't recall one right now.

Daredevil Vs. Doctor Light

Presenting Part Two of  our latest Two-Part Epic!  Did you guess correctly?  Daredevil was the only one not affected by the visuals of Doctor Light's attack on yesterday's cover (except maybe by almost being crushed by the falling bodies of his fellow heroes), let's see if the villain can adjust for this miscalculation in his plans...

Doctor Light Conquers the Marvel Universe

Doctor Light operated like DC's version of Doctor Doom in a way.  He was not tied to a single hero and could show up in anyone's title.  He would confront individual heroes as well as entire teams.  It's too bad that later on he was turned into a joke or worse by many writers.

So, just who is the one Marvel hero that can stop him?  Hint:  Said hero is on this cover!  Can you guess before all is revealed in tomorrow's exciting conclusion?

The Light Brigade in: "Illuminating Evil!"

I'm hoping that we get a full trailer soon for WandaVision.  Despite delays, the series is still set to debut on Disney+ before the end of the year.  I mostly want to see how Monica Rambeau looks, and if they manage to give her a costume close to her classic appearance from the comics.

This is the Third Appearance of The Light Brigade - they previously battled Blackheart in STF #2690, and first appeared in STF #2170...

The Light Brigade (Vs. Blackheart!)

I was not expecting the adult Monica Rambeau to make her MCU debut until a Captain Marvel sequel, but it won't take that long.  She is scheduled to be a supporting character in the upcoming Disney+ show Wanda Vision.  Will she gain her superhuman abilities in that show?  I hope so, I can't wait to see her using her powers in live action.

The Light Brigade first appeared in STF #2170...

Dazzler Vs. Doctor Light

When I was a kid, I considered Doctor Light to be one of the main villains of the DCU.  Like Doctor Doom over at Marvel, he did not seem to be tied to one particular hero or team and indeed was a menace all over the company's roster of titles.  He showed up as an antagonist in many different heroes titles, not to mention taking them on as groups in the pages of Justice League of America or Teen Titans.  Maybe he wasn't able to maintain his standing as an arch villain because he was defeated so often.

Dazzler fought Doctor Light with Green Lantern in STF #2043...

Thunderbolts Vs. The Secret Society of Super-Villains

Ever since I was a kid watching The Legion of Doom on Super Friends, I have always liked seeing villains joining together to make teams of their own.  It's cool to see so much power amassed together and the conflicts that arise when a group of evil, self-serving personalities attempt to work as one.  The Thunderbolts took the concept one step further by having the villains pose as heroes, and explored the effect that had on all of them - making it one of my favorite Marvel series.

The Light Brigade

Ever since I created Dark Matter, a team that specialized in the use of darkness and shadow, I have been meaning to put together a group of heroes with light-based abilities to balance them out.  It's good to know that these characters are getting more exposure lately.  There have been versions of Doctor Light and The Ray on the DC CW shows, Monica Rambeau is strongly rumored to be appearing in the upcoming Captain Marvel, Dagger has an upcoming series on Freeform, and Lightray will be a part of Ava Duvernay's New Gods film.

Dazzler and Green Lantern

When I was a kid, I saw Dr. Light as one of the premiere DC villains.  Unlike most super-villains, he wasn't confined to a single superhero.  He got around, taking on Green Lantern, The Atom, The Teen Titans, The JLA and more.  It's too bad that he later became somewhat of a joke, and what was done with him in Identity Crisis still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  I'd like to see a Rebirth version that undoes a lot of those missteps.

Fantastic Four and Doctor Light

The heroic Doctor Light, Kimiyo Hoshi,  has been woefully underused.  She had a great start, being introduced in Crisis on Infinite Earths and becoming a founding member of the all new Justice League comic - but not much was done with her after that,  She showed up in Justice League Unlimited, but just as a background character.  She got a live action shot on The Flash, but was gone after an episode or two.  I think she still has tons of untapped potential as a character.

Cloak Vs. Doctor Light

The upcoming Cloak and Dagger has released a trailer and I like what I see.  I always thought that they could make for a great TV show, and I hope the characters are done justice..  There wasn't a whole lot in the way of super powers or costumes featured, but I am sure that's something that will grow throughout the series.  I'll definitely be checking it out.

Doctor Light and Spider-Man

I remember really liking the new heroic Doctor Light that rose out of the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths and expecting big things for the character.  Unfortunately, she never really seemed to find a home.  I remember her showing up briefly in a few Justice League story lines, but I always thought that she was deserving of more attention.  It was cool to see a version of her in live action on The Flash, and hopefully that is a sign of bigger things to come for her in the comic world down the line.

She-Hulk and Doctor Light

The new Doctor Light, who first appeared in Crisis on Infinite Earths has never been given a proper chance, in my opinion.  Her appearances since her debut have been sporadic at best, and when she has appeared, she hasn't stuck around for very long.  I think that the character has a ton of potential, and I hope she finds a regular home in the DCU sometime soon.

Doctor Light and Photon

Here are two great character that we don't see enough of.  Monica Rambeau has been known as Captain marvel, Pulsar and Photon, and has served time in The Avengers and Nextwave.  With all the Avengers titles floating around these days, hopefully she will find a permanent home on one of the teams and get her chance to shine again.  I was a big fan of the new female Doctor Light when she was introduced in Crisis on Infinite Earths, and I really thought she was going to be a bigger star.  Sadly, other than a blink-and-you-miss-it stint on The Justice League, DC hasn't really seemed to know what to do with her since then.  I still think that she has a lot of potential, so hopefully she will get another chance in the New 52.
