Black Panther and Jonny Quest

For a brief moment, the classic Jonny Quest cartoons showed up on HBO Max.  I only got about five episodes in before they were pulled off of the service.  Hopefully they will return or show up somewhere else that I can check out the rest.  It was great seeing them again after all these years.

Black Panther and The Flash

I always like team ups in which the heroes would swap villains.  I thought it was time to present another one of those here.  Something tells me that Kraven and The Trickster have bitten off a bit more than they can chew here, however!

Captain Marvel and Black Panther

These two characters might not have a lot in common, but hey - gigantic monsters storming the countryside would tend to bring all kinds of heroes together.  I know that I would read it!

Usagi Yojimbo and Black Panther

The title says it all - this is a tale that I think would make for a visual feast.  I can imagine lots of crowded battle scenes and action against a backdrop of scenic vistas and ancient villages.  Reading a comic like that would not be a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon

Black Panther and The Black Racer

It's time for another all-Kirby classic.  Jack Kirby was great at presenting big action, big personalities, big machines, big concepts and big stakes - so a mystery involving the king of an advanced society and an emissary of death from New Genesis would be right in his wheelhouse.

The Avengers Vs. Chronos

Sure, there's Kang, The Lord of Time and others - but my favorite time traveling villain has always been Chronos.  I think it's because he was a foe of The Atom, who I also really like and that way cool creepy clock face mask he would wear.   The black and white striped leggings on the other hand... OK maybe he didn't have a perfect costume, but it worked for my young eyes!

Batman and Black Panther (The Animated Special!)

I've enjoyed Black Panther's appearances as a team member or guest star in various Fantastic Four and Avengers cartoons, and thought that the Marvel Knights motion comics featuring him were pretty cool as well.  I think it's time T'Challa receives an animated series all his own.  There are no shortage of interesting supporting characters, villains and guest stars that could be part of the show and the Wakandan setting would make it unique among most superhero shows.

This is the third meeting between Batman and Black Panther on the blog.  They last faced some diplomatic difficulties in in STF #1553, and originally appeared together on one of the very first covers made for the blog from back in April of 2010...

Black Panther Vs. Darkseid

Time for another all-Kirby cover.  I think this would be an interesting match up.  Not only would is supply cool action sequences, it might be interesting to juxtapose the different leadership styles between these two rulers. The difference of loyalty gained through respect rather than fear may be what turns this tide of battle.

Black Panther and Mickey Mouse

I haven't had a chance to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever yet, but I am looking forward to it.  I really liked Shuri and M'Baku from the first film and hope to see them both with larger roles this time around.  I'm still not sold on Namor, we'll see if the writing and performance can overcome the fact that he looks absolutely nothing like the comic book character.

I am very happy to use the work of Fred Hembeck on this cover.  Back in 2008, I commissioned him to recreate one of my all-time favorite covers, and he knocked it out of the park - he even hand drew the logo:

Black Panther and Black Adam

Black Adam had a decent opening but did not break any records (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever just may, though), so Dwayne Johnson's hope to reshape the hierarchy of the DC Universe has probably hit a snag.  Now it's been reported that James Gunn and Peter Safran have been put in charge of DC Films, and will be shepherding all Movie, TV and animation projects for at least the next four years.  I'd say everything is truly up in the air again until we hear some new announcements.

Thank you to Marc Tyler Nobleman, Comics Historian and Patron of this blog, for suggesting this pairing!

Black Panther and Deadman

Hopefully we'll be seeing a full trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soon.  The teaser trailer was impressive, and I am ready to see more.  I'm still not sold on the new look for Namor, but if his attitude and motivations are comics accurate, I will be happy.  Will we Shuri or M'Baku suited up - not to mention Ironheart?  I have a feeling most of those big reveals will be kept to the actual moviegoing experience - as they probably should be.

Jimmy Olsen and The Black Panther

Rumors are swirling that a teaser trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be dropping very soon, and I am really looking forward to seeing what's in store. Marvel has a lot to accomplish with the movie, transitioning away from T'Challa after Chadwick Boseman's tragic passing and introducing a major MCU player in Namor, The Sub-Mariner.  I'm also looking forward to seeing what new fashions and devices are coming our way, the first film was a visual treat due to all the cool design work.

Aquaman and Black Panther

When Marc Tyler Nobleman, comics' historian and Patron of this Blog, suggested this pairing to me I had to go back and check - I could have sworn that I had done this one already!  Alas, I had not - It must be one of the many ideas that I meant to get to but just fell through the cracks.  So, thanks for reminding me, Marc!  These two leaders definitely deserve a tale together!

Black Panther and Samurai Jack

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been plagued by delays in its filming schedule for various reasons, but I hope that it is finally getting back on track.  It will be interesting to see how the plot plays out, especially how Namor fits into things.  I thought he was to be the main antagonist but recently I've heard that he will have a smaller introductory role, similar to that of T'Challa in Captain America: Civil War. I've yet to see a bad Ryan Coogler movie, so I trust the director to deliver an entertaining final product.

Black Panther Vs. The Black Spider

I don't know if he was killed off or just forgotten about, but The Black Spider is one of those cool 80's Batman villains that we don't really hear about anymore.  That's too bad, I remember thinking that he was an interesting antagonist.

Black Panther here is by the legendary Dave Cockrum.  Here's an original sketch by him that I was lucky enough to pick up several years ago:

Batman & Robin and The Avengers

Set photos from the upcoming Batgirl movie seem to indicate that there is a Robin active in that version of Gotham City.  It's still uncertain as to how Batman will even be handled in that movie - Commissioner Gordon will be played by The Snyderverse's  J.K. Simmons, but Ben Affleck will have already retired from Playing the Dark Knight following the events of The Flash - a film which will also bring back Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne, setting him up to appear in Batgirl.  Maybe all of this will make more sense once we se a trailer, but it seems a bit crazy right now.

Batman met with The Avengers a few times way back in my Brave and the Bold: The Lost Issues! days - First when he tried to rewrite the team's roster, then when he was a part of the the original line-up and finally with Cap's Kooky Quartet...

Black Panther Vs. Solomon Grundy

It looks like Solomon Grundy will be back eventually on Stargirl.  Rick Tyler has been leaving food in the woods for someone, after all.  I'm guessing when he returns, he'll be in a somewhat gentler form and maybe even help out the heroes, as he did back in the Infinity Inc. comic series.  I just hope the budget allows for more than quick glimpses of him this time around.

Avengers meet Mr. Miracle and Big Barda

It looks like the Avengers and New Gods have patched up their differences from STF #3000... and I have to say, Mr. Miracle and Barda look like they would fit right in with the team.  I do hope that they and the rest of the New Gods get another shot at the big screen, now that the Ava DuVernay film has been scrapped.  Telling the story of their upbringing on Apokolips and eventual romance would be compelling and provide lots of great moments for a movie.

Shuri and Hawkgirl

Continued from yesterday's cover, we see that our two heroines are ready to take the lead in this case.

It sounds like we will will be seeing Shuri (and possibly also M'Baku) donning a panther costume of her own in the sequel to continue the work that T'Challa began as Black Panther.  That made for an enjoyable story arc in the comics, and it will be interesting to see how the Marvel movies handle it, since this is a more permanent situation.

Black Panther and Hawkman

The Super Powers mini-series were generated to sell the toy line of the same name and I can't say that I remember the plot line.  I do remember picking them up because it would be the first time that I would see Jack Kirby illustrate some of DC's main heroes.  For some, like Batman and Robin, I didn't feel his style worked with as well as it  did others.  On the other hand, I really liked his rendition of Hawkman and would have loved to have seen what he could have done with an extended run on that character.

This is only the first part of a 2-part epic, so make sure you come back tomorrow for the exciting conclusion!
