Doctor Doom on the Planet of the Apes

 

I remember the early 70's when Apes were everywhere.  My brothers and I would watch the Planet of the Apes TV series and we had lunch boxes, trading cards action figures and more dedicated to the post apocalyptic franchise. Something about that monkey world really grabbed my young imagination.

The Hulk and Harley Quinn

 

Set photos and official images of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga at Joker and Harley Quinn for Joker: Folie a Deux have been making the rounds and I really like what I see.  Joker seems pretty much the same (minus the green hair this time around?) and Gaga as Harley is recognizable as the character while fitting into the world that Todd Phillips created for the first film.  I can't wait to see how this movie looks in finished form.

Now if this was a movie of the week when I was growing up, there would have been nothing to stop me from watching it.  There were very few live action super-heroes to be found, so even though he wasn't from the comics, I counted Steve Austin as one of them.  Pair him up with and actual Marvel hero, throw in some guest stars and that would have been a true recipe for action in my young eyes.

Rocket Raccoon and Chewbacca

I 'm betting that no invitations to join Chewbacca and the Fur Force will be forthcoming after this little stunt.  In past adventures, Rocket got along better with Chewie's partner - he met Han Solo in STF #1488 and again in STF #1859, and Chewie got along better with Rocket's Partner - he met Groot in STF #1860...

Mars Attacks the Planet of the Apes

Both of these properties have crossed over with other comics and franchises, but as far as I know they have never crossed over with one another.  It seems like a natural pairing to me.  I know that this would be one instance in which I would definitely be rooting for the apes!

The Hulk and Shazam! (The TV Movie Adaptation!)

This is a TV crossover that would have knocked my socks off when I was a kid.  Despite the limited production values of each show, I took the adventures of these characters very seriously.  It sounds like a sequel to Shazam! will start shooting soon, despite the first film only being a modest hit.  That's a good thing, because I am eager to see where the story goes, especially with the alliance that was set up in the post-credits scene.

Superman and Doc Savage

I remember being let down by Superman III when I was a kid.  The inclusion of Richard Pryor was a head scratcher, and his scenes seem to belong in a completely different movie.  I wondered why they didn't use Brainiac if they were going with a computerized villain.  The real disappointment was the special effects, which looked pretty cheap compared to the first two films - it didn't help that I had just seen Return of the Jedi the same weekend.  Still, the movie is not a complete loss.  I quite like Annette O'Toole's turn as Lana Lang and the rekindled romance with Clark.  The Superman goes evil segment was well done too, especially the great Superman/Clark battle in the scrap yard. Better effects, Less Gus Gorman and Brainiac for the villain could have made this a third big success for the franchise.

Doc Savage and The Shadow

As far as I know, these two pulp heroes have never crossed paths, which is a little surprising.  They seem as though they would work together well in in a story.  STF Patron Ken Roskos pointed out in a previous comments section that they both had the same publisher back in the 40's so it could have happened

Doc Savage and Conan

I recently watched the original Conan The Barbarian movie to see how well it held up since my first viewing.  While it certainly shows its age there's a few too many montage scenes, I had a a lot of fun revisiting it.  Arnold in his youth, James Earl Jones, giant snakes, swordfights and scantily clad women - it's no wonder my 13 year old self was drawn to this film.

Groot and Mr. Spock

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has added started to get rolling, adding in Mantis to join Groot and the rest of the crew on their next adventure. I understand that The Collector will be back as well, but no word yet on who will be the villain of the sequel.  Whatever they decide, I am really looking forward to it, especially if director James Gunn can put together another great soundtrack to go with it!

Han Solo and Power Man

It's hard to believe we are just over two months away from the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  I am sure that a huge media push is just around the corner, but so far there has not been a lot of footage released.  I am fine with that - this is one film that I want to go into knowing as little about it as possible. I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised by what I see.

Doc Savage and The Human Torch

I am still very wary of the new Fantastic Four reboot that's about to hit theaters, but one thing that I think they got right visually is the look of the Human Torch flamed on and in action.  There's been endless debate about Michael B. Jordan's casting as Johnny Storm, but I don't think anyone can deny that the Human Torch battle scenes look pretty authentic - from the quick glimpses we have seen thus far, at least.   Wish I felt the same way about The Thing's appearance.  Put some pants on, Ben!

The Phantom on the Planet of the Apes

Some felt that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was a bit too dark of a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but I found myself enjoying it quite a bit.  I liked how the film resisted taking sides, and showed that while most humans and apes wanted to live in peace, it only took a few malcontents in each faction to stir up fear and anger.  The motion capture was amazing again.  I look forward to seeing what else is in store for future sequels.

The Six Million Dollar Man on the Planet of the Apes

The Planet of the Apes franchise seems to be in good hands these days, and now it seems that Steve Austin will be getting his chance at a resurgence of his own.  Peter Berg is set to direct Mark Wahlberg in The Six Billion Dollar Man.  I hope to learn more about the project, because both have had recent missteps with the sci-fi/action genre - Berg with Battleship and Wahlberg with the last Transformers.  Let's hope a little more care is put into the Bionic Man's big screen debut.

The Bondsmen

These guys all know how to save the day even if they have to break a few rules along the way  It would be cool to see them join together to take down a criminal empire or two.  I like the idea of Bond having the best back ups ever, and it would be fun to come up with an interesting reason for each member to owe him a favor, leading to the creation of the team.  This isn't the last we will see of the Bondsmen.

Captain America and Doc Savage

I don't think that Marvel ever got these two guys together when they had the Doc Savage rights, but I think it would have made for a cool story.  They both work well in various time frames so I can envision an epic saga that would span decades.  Get legendary Captain America writer Roger Stern to pen the tale and you would have a classic on your hands.

Hawkman and Doc Savage

Doc Savage is one of the biggest pulp characters that has never really been able to make the transition to live action.  I think there was some low budget attempt featuring ex-Tarzan Ron Ely, but other than that filmmakers seem to have steered clear of the property.  It's too bad, because I think that there is a great Indiana Jones type film to be be made with Doc Savage.  Casting might be a challenge, as you would need a action star type that could also convincingly portray Doc's intellect.
