Orion and Princess Leia

Space-faring freedom fighters with dads that want to conquer the galaxy?  Yup, these two have plenty in common.  I think there would be a ton of story potential in putting them together.

Darth Vader and Darkseid first encountered each other in STF # 2184, and then again in STF #2343 and are both members of The Overlords, as seen in STF #2490...

Orion and Machine Man

I've finally gotten around to watching Game of Thrones, and all of the castles, battles and family drama have me convinced that maybe a New Gods HBO Max series would be the way to go.  A movie would be cool, but so much of the story would have to be glossed over or left out completely even with a long running time.  A nice ten episode run would allow for Jack Kirby's characters and concepts to really shine.

Orion and The Avengers

The New Gods film is said to be centered around Mr. Miracle and Big Barda, but I have to believe that Orion will play a pivotal role.  He is the son of Darkseid after all, and the opposite side of the coin in many ways to Scott Free.  I really hope that someone is cast in the role that can do the complexity of the character justice (and that they don't mind spending a good amount of time in a helmet).

The Avengers first met Orion (along with Lightray) in STF #2116...

Orion and Medusa

I'm still scratching my head at many of the decisions made for the now cancelled Inhumans TV series.  Making it a TV show instead of a film was probably the first one, its a property that really needs a big budget to present well.  Having almost all of the characters stripped of their powers for most of the series didn't help either - chopping Medusa's hair off in the first episode, never having it return?  I know it has happened in the comics before, but it's not what I was hoping to see.  This is one property I wouldn't mind giving the Marvel Cinematic Universe a do-over on.

The Avengers meet Orion and Lightray

Avengers: Infinity War was originally supposed to have "Part I" in the title, but they decided not to go that route, and will give the 4th film in the franchise its own (for now, mysterious) title.  Does this mean that the new film will be self-contained, without feeling like half of a story?  I can't imagine there won't be at least a couple of cliffhangers.

Long-time STF visitors know that Darkseid enslaved The Avengers way back in issue #377...

Hercules Vs. Orion

This would be a fun match up.  The sons of Zeus and Darkseid not only each possess incredible strength, they both have a real appreciation for combat - Orion, because he was bred for battle and Hercules because he just really likes fighting.  It wouldn't take much to get them to face off.

Orion Vs. The Hulk

Here are a couple of guys who each have warring sides to their personalities that they must contend with every day, and that might make for an interesting team up.  They are both Jack Kirby designs as well, and their adventures revolve around super science as much as brute force.  Yeah, I think these two would find that they have plenty of common ground - once they stopped beating the snot out of one another!

The Thing and Orion

Another all-Kirby outing today. You have to love those crazy contraptions that he was always coming up with. It will be great to finally see some Jack Kirby-inspired clothing and architecture in the upcoming Thor film. If this film is a huge success, I wonder if it will open the door for a possibility of a film focusing on Kirby's Fourth World creations? If done well, it could be an incredibly epic tale, like Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars.

Batman and The New Gods

I was a big Mr. Miracle fan when I was a kid but for some reason I just could never get into The New Gods. It was only when Darkseid became more of a line wide villain and started appearing in various titles that I started to get interested on the whole story of New Genesis and Apokolips. Fortunately, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm must have been Fourth World fans because the Kirby characters were featured quite a bit on Superman: The Animated Series and then Justice League Unlimited. It was these animated appearances where I really began to appreciate the whole mythology of the characters.

DC recently killed off all of the New Gods, and now they are going to be reborn in new forms... or something. I'm not sure. I read Final Crisis but Grant Morrison can be confusing at times! Hopefully they will be back soon.
