Foom is of course referring here to the events that took place in STF #2991 - it looks like whatever cure Aquaman offered was impermanent. There's no fury like a dragon scorned, so the battle lines have been drawn!

I thought that it was time that one of STF's earliest teams received their own cartoon show. I'm guessing that this on might have a hard time getting past the network censors, though! This is the Third appearance of The Damned on this blog - They were last seen facing Satan's retribution in STF #1890, and first appeared way back in STF #176...
I thought that it might be interesting to have these two as allies rather than combatants. The phantom mantle has been passed down as long or longer as Foom has been in operation, so they may even have some shared history together. I'd like to see the threat that requires their cooperation.
This is a match up that I am surprised we did not see for real back when Marvel had the rights to publish Godzilla comics. I definitely would have been down for a Herb Trimpe-illustrated throwdown between these two behemoths. I have always loved the designs of both of these monsters and it would be great to see them clash.
DC seems to be having some trouble adapting The New Gods to the big screen. Zach Snyder introduced elements in his Justice League movie, but Warner Bros does not seem to want to move forward with his vision. They also cancelled Ava DuVernay's New Gods movie that was in development, and are most likely not encouraged by the muted reactions to Marvels similar Eternals. I've got the perfect solution - go with a New Gods animated series first! That will give the property the proper length to tell an expansive story that features such a large cast of characters. If it's a hit, audiences will be primed to se a live action version as a follow up.
Who would have thought that the character on this cover most likely to show up in a big budget movie first would be Fin Fang Foom? At least he has been heavily rumored to be showing up in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Hopefully we will see a teaser or trailer before too long and see if there is any confirmation of Foom's involvement.
Firestorm previously faced off against Fin Gang Foom in STF #1447...
