Sherlock Holmes Vs. The Riddler

 

Sherlock Holmes actually did show up in a couple of Batman stories, which was pretty cool.  An actor  playing Holmes had a run in with The Joker in a fun tale as well. Still, the match up I'd be interested to see would be Holmes versus Edward Nigma. Nobody is better at solving riddles than Holmes, and that would challenge the Batman foe like never before.

If anyone can detect the presence of an invisible, intangible spirit, it's got to be Sherlock Holmes.  I've enjoyed tales where Holmes investigates cases with a supernatural element to them, so this is a story that might be cool to see play out.

Robert Downey Jr. is done with his time in the MCU, and I'm going to guess there won't be a sequel to Doctor Dolittle any time soon.  I'm hoping his freed up schedule gives him time to join Jude Law for a third outing as Sherlock Holmes.  I've read that there is some interest in making another film, but I haven't seen anything definite about it yet.  Hopefully, that will change soon - The success of the Knives Out movies show that audiences are still ready to embrace a well written mystery.

Never mind Moriarty, Sherlock may have just met his match right here.  I heard some mention of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law teaming for a third Sherlock Holmes installment, and I'm all for it.  While the series hasn't reached the heights of the Jeremy Brett or Benedict Cumberbatch versions (or even Basil -ahem- Rathbone) for me, I still find the first two films entertaining and it's always good to have more Holmes content.  At least we know for sure Enola Holmes has another movie coming up on Netflix.

Jessica Jones and Sherlock Holmes

 

I haven't heard any confirmation other than the fact that Kevin Feige stated he enjoyed Krysten Ritter in the role of Jessica Jones, but I hope that the rumors are true that she could be among those returning from the Marvel Netflix shows to join the MCU.  She could definitely show up in Echo or a new Disney+ Daredevil series (although those two may be one and the same show with a last minute change of title, according to other rumors).  Now that Tony Stark is gone, the MCU definitely needs someone with a dry wit like Jessica to poke holes in the A-List heroes.

Swamp Thing and Sherlock Holmes

A friend of mine gave me a copy of The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes, and I absolutely devoured it.I had seen the character in some movies, but finally reading the original tales made me a life long fan.  I've made a point to pass on the collection to others.  The stories are all great, but my favorites include the first one, A Study in Scarlet, which introduces Holmes, Watson, LeStrade and the whole setting.  Other standouts include The Solitary Cyclist, The Greek Interpreter and The Red-Headed League.  My Favorite has to be The Musgrave Ritual, there are some really great twists and turns in that one.

The Spectre and Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey Jr. has completed his run as Iron Man, and his hopes for another franchise in Dolittle were dashed by a very poorly received first outing as that character.  Hopefully that means he will once again step into the role of Sherlock Holmes for the long rumored third film in that series.  I'd prefer that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return to Netflix' Sherlock, but I'll take what I can get.

It looks like Robert Downey Jr.'s first big post-Iron Man project will be Dolittle.  It seems like something meant for younger viewers, so the trailers have not really interested me.  Downey has also mentioned the possibility of a third Sherlock Holmes film, which is a project I'd like to see.  He's no Jeremy Brett or even Benedict Cumberbatch in the role, but I still enjoyed his take and I always welcome more Sherlock Holmes mysteries.

I was disappointed to hear that Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to star in a new series, further closing the door on the likelihood of new Sherlock episodes from him and Martin Freeman.  I'll just have to get my Holmes fix elsewhere.  Elementary has gotten better each season and the seems to be continuing.  Robert Downey Junior has hinted that he is ready for a third cinematic outing as the character.  Then there's the upcoming Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy - but I can't say the trailer for that made me laugh once.

Daredevil and Sherlock Holmes

I am glad that Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch have become part of the Marvel cinematic universe, but my favorite roles to see both of these talented actors in are Holmes and Watson.  So, I am very happy that we will finally be getting some new installments of Sherlock on the BBC in the new year.  I will watch anything Sherlock Holmes related, and I consider their show to be among the best (right after the just about perfect Jeremy Brett series).   Elementary has been tiding me over, but it just isn't the same

Sherlock Holmes and Detective Chimp

I am a huge fan of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and I am looking forward to finally seeing it return at the end of the year,  even if only for a single special.  Both actors are understandably in demand these days, and while I am a fan of Star Trek and Doctor Strange as well, I do wish they had time to work on more episodes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famed sleuth.

These two shared a story in Detective Comics #572, and I have always wanted to see them together again.  It's great to see Sherlock Holmes getting so mach attention these days.  I enjoyed the Robert Downey Jr. films, they were fun if a bit splashy for Holmes.  Elementary has grown on me as well, an interesting spin on the Watson/Holmes story.  My favorite current Holmes incarnation is on the BBC's Sherlock.  Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect in the role of a modern-day Sherlock Holmes.  Still, no actor has ever topped Jeremy Brett in my mind when it comes to playing the world's most famous sleuth.
