Swamp Thing and Lara Croft

Swamp Thing was named as one of the characters that has a DCU film in development and James Mangold has been rumored to direct, but there has been no further information given on the project.  It will be interesting to see how this new take will differ from what has gone before.  Will it be self contained, or will it be a springboard to introduce other supernatural and magical parts of the DCU?  Hopefully it will not bee too long before we learn more.

Lara Croft enters The Tomb of Dracula

Lara Croft does raid tombs, after all - so why not one of the most famous tombs in fiction?  She's also faced off against somewhat supernatural creatures before, but could anything prepare her for an encounter with Count Dracula?  I still haven't seen the latest Tomb Raider movie, but I find both of the Angelina Jolie entries to be guilty pleasures.  Is the reboot with Alicia Vikander worth checking out?

Lara Croft and Man-Thing

Alicia Vikander has been cast as the new cinematic Lara Croft.  I have not seen her Oscar-winning performance in The Danish Girl, but I though she did a fine job in Ex Machina.  Still, that role is quite different from the hero of Tomb Raider and she seems pretty petit for an action star.  Hopefully she will undergo enough physical preparation for her to provide a convincing depiction of the video game icon.

Indiana Jones and Lara Croft

Chriss Pratt has denied rumors that he has been approached about replacing Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, and indeed news of another Ford-starring installment has resurfaced.  I don't mind this news - despite Pratt's talent, I just can't see anyone else in the iconic role.  I have also read that Tomb Raider may be headed back to the silver screen with a rebooted franchise.  I enjoyed both of the Angelina Jolie movies and would welcome more theatrical outings for Lara croft.

Lara Croft and Catwoman

I think that these two have a lot in common and a story featuring them together would be a lot of fun.  I don't know whether they would combine their talents or be at odds with one another, but their similar skill sets would make for an action packed tale... or video game!

The Thing and Tomb Raider

I liked video games but was always somewhat disappointed by games based on superheroes.  They were usually side scrolling and very repetitive.  I always wished that there would be a superhero themed game set in a huge open environment where you could control the hero, solving puzzles and fighting bad guys.  I was giving up hope when I finally got a copy of Eidos' first Tomb Raider Game.  It wasn't based on a comic book character, but this was finally the kind of action I had been hoping for.  Thankfully, the format took off and we have seen some great games, superhero and otherwise in the years since.  I have to believe a great game like Arkham Asylum would not have come about if not for the ground broken by Tomb Raider.

The Tomb Raider films are not high art by any standard, but I have to admit I enjoyed them both.  I understand there is some interest in reviving the character as a movie property, and I will be interested in seeing what comes of that.
