Space-faring freedom fighters with dads that want to conquer the galaxy?  Yup, these two have plenty in common.  I think there would be a ton of story potential in putting them together.

Darth Vader and Darkseid first encountered each other in STF # 2184, and then again in STF #2343 and are both members of The Overlords, as seen in STF #2490...

Nightcrawler and Green Lantern

 

Bob Greenwade, a patron of this blog, suggested that Nightcrawler would make for a good candidate to receive a GL ring.  I have to agree with that sentiment, so here you go, Bob!

Star-Lord and Green Lantern

I remember seeing the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and thinking what a good solution it was to have Star-Lord's mask appear and disappear with a click of a button on his neck.  I could accept it with alien technology and it meant we could see the actor's face more.  Marvel, however, has really taken the idea and run with it.  Now it seems like everyone has these magical types of helmets.  Iron Man, War Machine, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Yellowjacket... pretty much anyone who wears a helmet seems to have access to that movie-friendly yet improbable tech.  I love the movies, but that's always been a minor nit pick for me.

Flash Gordon and Superman

Because of the 80's camp classic film (and that film's role in the movie Ted), Flash Gordon is often considered a cheesy character.  For me, my first thoughts go to the amazing comic strips he appeared in.  The artwork is beautifully detailed, well ahead of its time when compared to most comics of the era.  I'd love to see a more serious take on the sci-fi hero one of these days.

The Green Hornet and Green Lantern

Kyle Rayner's original costume got a lot of flack from some fans, particularly the mask.  I thought that this was a bad rap, and that the costume as designed was pretty cool looking, and a nice departure from the Green Lantern outfits we had seen up until that point.  Some artists did have difficulty illustrating the mask, causing some to call it a "crab face", but that was more due to their translation than the actual look that Darryl Banks came up with.

Generally I don't like too many versions of a character running around, as I think it tends to dilute the original.  Green Lantern and Nova are exceptions since they each come from a Corps of characters, and it makes sense to have more than one hero assuming the titles.  Even though I am a big fan of Hal Jordan and Richard Rider, Kyle Rayner and Sam Alexander have proven themselves to be interesting character in their own right.
