Black Knight and Batman

Batman and the modern day Black Knight faced off on a Lost B&B cover from way back in 2010, so I thought that it was high time that he met the original version.  I have to imagine that their capes would really get in the way in a swordfight, though!

Crusaders of Camelot

This is a team concept that I have had rattling around in my brain for a while, and I am glad that I finally got around to putting it together.  It would be cool to see the adventures of a superhero team from the Middle Ages.

The Avengers Vs. Black Adam

As we reach the mid-point of this 5-Part Tale, we see that Black Adam is using his cosmically charged power to tear through Earth's Mightiest Heroes!  One member of the team thinks they have what it takes to face him solo, though.  Who is it, and are they correct?  Make sure you come back tomorrow for Part Four!

Black Knight and Dawnstar

Did you guess the correct Legionnaire to accompany The Black Knight back to his era from yesterday's cover?  Who better to locate an important lost artifact than one of the 31st Century's best trackers?

Marvel laid the seeds for The Black Knight in Eternals.  Let's hope we won't have to wait years before we see Dan Whitman on the big screen again, so that he can fully embrace his heroic destiny.

Legion of Super-Heroes and The Black Knight

Presenting Part One of a Two-Part Epic!  It looks like The Black Knight has traveled a long way to find one specific Legionnaire.  But which one of the future heroes depicted on this cover is he hoping to recruit?  Make sure you come back tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion!

Red Sonja, Detective Chimp & Black Knight in Camelot 3000

I just checked out the newest collection of DC Showcase Shorts (Constantine in the House of Mystery, Kamandi, The Losers and Blue Beetle), and they were all at treat to watch.  These 20-minute adventures of some of their lesser known characters have been more entertaining to me than DC's full length animated efforts in the past few years, and I really hope the Warner Bros/Discovery shakeup doesn't mean the end of them.  Camelot 3000 would be a perfect place to visit in a future installment, so let's hope they continue.

Black Knight and Shining Knight in: "All Roads Lead To Mordor!"

With all the talk of superhero multiverses lately, the rest of the world is just catching up to the cool crossover possibilities that visitors to this blog have been aware of for a decade plus! Here's another concept that might be cool to explore in the screen - the medieval heroes of Marvel and DC in the world of The Lord of the Rings!  Well, I'd be interested in checking it out anyway!

These two Knights first crossed paths way back in STF #138...

Black Knight and Dr. Fate

The final Eternals trailer showed  more about the plot  - 7 days to stop Earth cracking like an egg to give birth to a new Celestial - but just a quick glimpse of Dane Whitman.  It looks like he will be very much a supporting character, and we will probably have to wait for another Marvel movie down the line for him to fully become the Black Knight we  know from the comics.  At least his story is being set up.  Maybe he'll come into possession of the Ebony Blade in a post credits sequence?

Sgt. Rock and The Black Knight

I am very curious to see how Dane Whitman, The Black Knight, is used in The Eternals.  The teaser trailer didn't give much of a hint - he was shown only briefly, wearing contemporary clothing.  The movie is expected to span many years, so perhaps there will be at least one scene set in the last with him fully suited up with winged steed and mystical sword in hand.  Or maybe that's something we will have to wait to see in a future film.

Avengers and Booster Gold

Wasn't there talk of a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle movie a few years ago?  I wonder how far into development it got before being put on the back burner along with Spielberg's Blackhawk and other movies announced but never produced.  Maybe a HBO Max series might be a better choice for the property anyway, we'll see if the project gets another chance on that platform.

The Avengers and Death

Has anyone had a chance to listen to the recently produced Sandman Audio Drama?  I've heard some other DC Comics audio dramas before like Kingdom Come and Death and Return of Superman, and I was impressed with how well they were done.  This one seems to have an impressive cast, including Kat Dennings as Death, James MacAvoy as Dream, Taron Edgerton as Constantine, Andy Serkis as Mattherw and Neil Gaiman himself as the narrator.  I'm going to have to get a copy to listen to at night.

Black Knight in Camelot 3000

I remember when Camelot 3000 first came out, I didn't collect it because it seemed separate from DC's superhero stuff and I didn't think it would interest me.  Then I heard about delays on the later issues of the Maxi-Series that dampened the enthusiasm of a lot of fans.  Still, I liked Mike W. Barr's work on titles like Batman and the Outsiders, and Brian Bolland's art simply amazed me, so a few years later I collected the entire run - and I loved it!  The story was cool and it was so great to see Bolland doing interiors as well as covers.  I am a bit surprised that DC has never revisited any of the characters introduced within.

Justice League of America and The Avengers in: "Depths of Deception!"

Marvel has certainly had many amazingly talented artists on its comics, but one has always stood out to me as having the "official house look" of the company. It should probably be Jack Kirby, but for me it was always John Buscema.  I can trace it back to many classic issues that he worked on, but most of all it's because of his contribution to How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, a book that had a huge impact on me as a kid.  I was very happy to give my decades old copy away to a young comic fan at a yard sale last year, I hope it inspires him as much as it did me.

Seven Swordsmen

Back in another life, when I went to acting school, I took a fencing class, and it was an absolute blast.  There were a few offensive and defensive moves to learn, and once I had them down, it was easy to choreograph battles.  We would practice in slow motion until we got it perfect and then switch to real time.  Tons of fun!

Martian Manhunter and The Avengers

Continued from yesterday's cover, we have part Two of our Three-Part Epic... make sure to return tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion!

I really loved the Roger Stern/John Buscema run on The Avengers.  This was truly the wide-screen type of action that the team is so well suited for.  I still remember being rocked by the battle with The Masters of Evil and hope to see the Siege on Avengers Mansion story line make it to the big screen one day.

The Demon and The Black Knight (Vs. Klarion the Witch Boy)

Today would have been Jack Kirby's 99th Birthday.  I think my introduction to his work might have been the reprinted Marvel Superhero origin pages that would run in Dynamite Magazine.  Even back in the early 70's his art made an impression on me. My appreciation only grew decades later, when I saw his work in black and white, via the Marvel Essential TPB's - some of the early coloring really obscured his art.

The Avengers on The Planet of the Apes

The current Planet of the Apes franchise is readying a third installment and I hope it keeps up the high standards of the first two films.  I liked how the second movie was so different from the first while still carrying the story along.  The second Avengers film, while a ton of fun, hit a lot of the same story beats as the first and thus didn't feel quite as special.  Hopefully the third will give audiences something they haven't seen before, and with the Russo Brothers at the helm, I am confident it will.

Elongated Man and The Avengers

I remember fondly the issues of Justice League of America in which "Metamorpho says 'No!'" and Black Lightning calls the JLA "turkeys" when asked to join the ranks.  It was shocking that anyone would not want to be a member and those made for great stories.  Nowadays nobody turns the Avengers or JLA down, and they are bursting at the seams.

Batman and the Outsiders and The Black Knight

The Outsiders is one team that I would like to see make a comeback.  There have been a few revivals over the years, but most made the mistake of not including enough of the founding members.  I'd prefer Batman to be in the mix, but i would be happy with just Geo-Force, Katana, Halo, Black Lightning and Metamorpho.  DC doesn't really seem to know what to do with those characters anyway - why not let them join forces again?

Black Knight and The Demon

Etrigan is another character that I really hope will show up on Constantine, which begins this week.  With so many shows featuring people transforming into vampires, werewolves and other creatures on a regular basis, I think audiences are ready for Jason Blood to make the leap to live action.
