There was a lot of prep work required on the background of this cover, before I could add the heroes in.  Here is a look at the behind the scenes progress:

I... Vampire and Werewolf By Night

 

I enjoyed the Disney+ Werewolf by Night special and was hoping that I would hear of another upcoming appearance by Jack Russell (and his buddy Man-Thing) in the MCU by now, but nothing has been announced.  With all of the trouble getting a new Blade movie up and running, I guess I am not too surprised.  Maybe a good way would be to bring all the Marvel supernatural heroes together for one big epic.  I wouldn't mind seeing the three of them team up with Brother Voodoo and Ghost Rider to deal with the possessed Doctor Strange.

Supergirl and Spider-Woman in: "Deathplunge!"

 

Supergirl and Spider-Woman are about to hit the big screen, although as variants in each case. Issa Rae will be voicing Spider-Woman Jessica Drew from another universe in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, and then a couple of weeks later Sasha Calle will star as an other dimensional Supergirl in The Flash.  From what I have seen, both look to be impressive.  Still, I hope we will get to see the versions we know from the comics in the theaters at some point down the line.

Mephisto Vs. 4 Famous Co-Stars

 

Continued from yesterday's cover, we see that Ghost Rider has joined the fray. This crew has some history together.  Johnny Blaze first met Evel Knievel  way back in STF #74, they joined forces again to battle Mephisto in STF #376, and later both joined the team Rolling Thunder in STF #1115.  Batman and Ghost Rider confronted Mephisto back on one of my very first covers,  a lost B&B Tale from 2010.

Harley Quinn and Ghost Rider

 

The Joker: Folie a Deux has been announced as an upcoming sequel to the Joaquin Phoenix film starring the Clown Prince of Crime.  The title refers to two people suffering from mental conditions, and rumors of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn have made the rounds.  That part has been denied - but not necessarily that Harley won't be in the movie, just that Gaga would not be in the role.  I have my reservations about whether such a perfect first film even needs a sequel, but that one was much better than I had expected it to be, so I will withhold judgment until I learn more or see some footage.

Adam Strange and Ghost Rider in: "Death Ride From Rann!"

 

Has anybody checked out the current Strange Adventures comic featuring Adam Strange and Mr. Terrific?  I like both of those characters a lot so I was interested in reading it, but some of the previews that I have seen make it look like yet another attempt to do a "grim and gritty" Adam Strange story, which I don't think ever really works.  I prefer Adam as more of a straight up swashbuckler type.  I still may pick up a digital copy once the series is completed and collected.

Batman and The Vision in: "Defeat and Repeat!"

 

Man, if not for this pandemic, we would have already seen The Batman in theaters.  Now we still have a full year to wait for it!  Let's hope they're using the extra time to perfect the product!

Ghost Rider Vs. Skeletor

Masters of the Universe seems to be on the verge of a comeback.  From what I read, there are two animated shows and a live action movie in the planning stages (not to mention the already airing  She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix).  Anything has to be a step up from the first movie attempt back in the day!  It will be interested to see which of these projects most successfully brings Eternia's heroes back into spotlight.

Superman and Ghost Rider

I understand that the upcoming Hulu Ghost Rider series will be featuring the newer Robbie Reyes version of the character.  I liked him on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so I'll give it a watch.  Still, I hope that the show dives deep into the Ghost Rider mythos and we get to see appearances by Johnny Blaze and Dan Ketch as well.  Heck, let's even get the old time western version in there!

Ghost Rider enters The House Of Mystery

I liked the balance that dc had with its old horror titles like House of Mystery, The Witching Hour, or House of Secrets.  While the stories inside were filled with scary creatures and dark morality tales, the horror hosts that introduced them still had a sense of humor about them.  A wicked sense of humor to be sure, but it was definitely there.  It was a juxtaposition that worked well for a young reader like I was at the time.

One thing that Marvel did well that set them apart from DC was the way they had heroic characters that looked like monsters.  Ghost Rider, The Thing, The Hulk, and others gave readers heroes to root for that looked as cool as some villains and it was a move that definitely worked.  DC eventually added in characters like The Demon and Swamp Thing, but for a long time their line-up was a pretty attractive bunch - even the Martian Manhunter looked like a handsome green bald guy for most of the Silver Age.

Ghost Rider first joined the Teen Titans back in STF #828, and his feud with Robin intensified in  STF #1689...

Ghost Rider and Firestorm

One thing I liked about the last few JLA/JSA crossovers in the original run of Justice League of America was a budding romance between Firestorm and Power Girl.  For some reason the flirtation they had with one another seemed to be a victim of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, and was never mentioned again.

Man-Bat and Ghost Rider in "Hell's Army!"

I wasn't sure what to think when I heard that Ghost Rider was going to be a part of this season's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  The show has not had the greatest track record of  adapting heroes (I'm looking at you, Deathlok) and it would be the new, car-driving Ghost Rider, Roberto Reyes, who I was not familiar with.  I am happy to say that my doubts were unfounded, and the Ghost Rider elements have been my favorite part of the season so far.  The effects are impressive for TV and Gabriel Luna does a fine job in the role.  As a bonus, we even got a Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider cameo!

Adam Strange and The Hulk

There finally seems to be some confirmation that Thor: Ragnarok will indeed be at least partially adapting the Planet Hulk storyline.  This should be a lot of fun and a good way to introduce some other characters and alien races into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  I hope we will see a Beta Ray Bill appearance as in the animated version.  It'll be interesting to see Hulk's battle armor as well as if he gains any intelligence.

The Legion of Super-Pets and Lockjaw

The prospect of an Inhumans movie is an exciting one, even if it is still years away.  I am especially looking forward to Lockjaw joining Rocket Racoon, Cosmo and Howard the Duck in Marvel's growing stable of animal superheroes on the big screen.  I have always thought the teleporting pooch was such a cool character in concept and appearance and it will be a treat to see him become the next scene stealer.

Ghost Rider and Jonah Hex

Ghost Rider and Jonah Hex are a couple of venerable comic stars who have had their reputations tarnished by sub-par theatrical appearances.  It will probably be a while before we see either of them in a live action format again.  Hopefully it will not be forever though, they are cool characters who deserve a proper treatment.

The Teen Titans and Ghost Rider

I have spoken before about how Nick Cardy is my favorite DC cover artist.  Even so, while it was great to see his take on so many different characters and genres, I wish that he had done more interior work. I loved what he did on titles like Teen Titans and Aquaman, and I wanted more  I'd have loved to have seen him do a run on Justice League or Legion of Super-Heroes.

Green Arrow and Ghost Rider

I'm glad I stuck with Arrow on the CW.  Sure, it's still kind of crazy how everyone in the show has model good looks, as happens on most of the shows from that network, but the series has really grown since it began.  The action scenes are great, and Stephen Amell makes a convincing and likable Green Arrow.  Oliver Queen is progressing towards being the full fledged hero from the comics, interacting with lots of characters from the DC Universe.  The last episode had Amanda Waller recruiting The Bronze Tiger for the Suicide Squad, so that has me really looking forward to the future.  I can't wait for The Flash to come on the air to see how the two series will interact.

Sub-Mariner Vs. Black Adam

I can't believe it has taken me this long to feature these two in a cover together.  Even as a little kid, I noticed the similarity in appearance that they shared, and I thought there was definite crossover potential to be had.  I imagine that any story featuring guys with such short fuses as Black Adam and Namor would  have to be filled with conflict, and that would make for a fun, action packed comic.

Ghost Rider and Evel Knievel in: "Hell on Wheels!"

This was one of my favorite offbeat pairings back in issue #74, so I thought I would give them another go 'round.  The last time I had a painted cover, so for this one I went for a more traditional Bronze Age comic vibe.  I used to love playing with the Evel Knievel wind-up stunt cycle (the ad from which this Knievel image came) when I was a kid - how cool would a Ghost Rider version of that toy have been?
