The Lightning Bolts
I wonder what it is about lightning bolts being used as motifs for superhero uniforms. There sure are a lot of them! I guess it's because they can stand for electricity, speed or power so they fit a lot of skill sets. At any rate, I had gotten a few requests for a team that shares this theme, so I figured I would give it a shot. I have to say, this would be a fun crew to watch work together.

Superman and Zot!
Zot! was a comic by Scott McCloud that was published from 1984 to 1990, just as comics were getting into the grim and gritty phase, so its bright visuals and upbeat attitude really stood out. McCloud later went on to write and illustrate the great Understanding Comics and Reinventing Comics, must reads for any fan of the genre.

Batman and Scott McCloud
I think for anybody that has a passing interest in comics, the creative process, or even art in general, Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics is essential reading. McCloud made the ingenious decision to explore the theory and workings of comics in actual comic book form. Not only did that help clarify a lot of concepts, the very act of reading the book itself served to reinforce the ideas presented within. I would also recommend his follow up, Reinventing Comics, which looked at where comics are now and where the form could go.
