Pietro Maximoff confused me a little as a kid. Given his white hair and grumpy attitude, coupled with the way some artists drew him, I thought he was much older than he was meant to be. He just seemed like kind of an elderly curmudgeon. Later interpretations would be more accurate for his age, but those earlier appearances really threw me off.

Alternative title - The Quick and the Dead?
Which brings up great questions....do ghosts have physical limitations? Can Barry Allen outrace Boston Brand and the Black Racer? Can Superman be able to shake off a ghost? Could the Martian Manhunter? Nice cover Ross.
At least we know that Quicksilver once outraced the Black Racer (back @ STF #2096).
And, in JJ' s case? He required the help of Zatanna to shake off the ghost of briefly dead Harley Quinn!*
*Personally, I still think it was a comatose astral projection (like most other hospital-based out-of-body experiences).
Last, but not least? Deadman once occupied Superman, in a Late Silver Age issue of World's Finest. But, the occupation was short-lived (no pun intended) as Boston quickly discovered that his ghostly energies cancelled out Supes' invulnerability.
Unless Quicksilver can sense Deadman's presence and deliberately avoid him, I don't see how he can remain out of range for long. Being a ghost, Deadman can't get tired and needs no rest, so can keep pursuing. Seems to me he also has the ability to know where anyone he has encountered before is at all times, so Quicksilver wouldn't be able to elude him just by getting out of sight (I could be wrong about this though); he was even able to surprise the Phantom Stranger (a pretty elusive fellow himself) once this way iirc, though I may be misremembering a story I haven't read in decades. Anyway, once Quicksilver goes to sleep, he could literally be caught napping if Deadman had the psychic senses I recall him having. Besides, at least in one cartoon (not sure if he ever did it in comics), he was able to catch up to the Watchtower - in orbit, going at several miles a second - in his own spirit form so he's definitely no slowpoke.
Too obvious...at least if the fact that I immediately thought of it myself upon seeing the header is any indication.
First thing I thought of myself, so Anonymous probably has a valid point as far as that is concerned. In fact, I believe I made a similar joke in a similar post about Deadman or The Flash a year or so ago.
I agree with Jason above. I thought Deadman could move faster than human speed as a ghost with no real physical limitations. Perhaps there is another factor in this team up that we're missing. Maybe Flash foe the Turtle & Hawkman foe the Gentleman Ghost have created a slowing force field all around this city which is even affecting Brand but Quicksilver's mutant genes are somehow immune.
I recall reading a bit from a story (in the comics) where Pietro described how his life is full of people moving slowly, and he gets impatient because of it. I think the writer figured that to be a reasonable argument, but it struck me as Pietro just making excuses; he simply inherited his father's sense of patience.
Overall, I think Evan Peters' portrayal of a lifelong speedster was much more realistic: mischievous. I really don't know what his nephew Tommy is like in the comics, though.
Anyhow, I think this is a very fine cover... and I'd like to see this pairing again just so you can use Dave's suggested title.
On another topic, is there any chance of ever seeing Access on this blog? It seems to me like he'd be in a good position to bring together* heroes like Iron Beetle and Green Devil... like, maybe, Batpool.
*Pun not intended but appreciated.
My "no crossovers using images from another crossover" rule renders Access off limits.
In other words; Access denied!
But, that being said, the rest of us might settle for Doomsday vs. Mangog. ;-D
Or even Mangog vs. GL Godzilla!
But on the other hand, with Ross' already proven talent at creating characters, maybe we could see his own Access-like character at some point? Maybe we even already have, and just don't know it yet…
Sadly, that's a no to Access; but it wasn't a no to Batpool!
you mean A Random Access?
Sort of a Joe Everyplace?
