I had heard good things about Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men and had read plenty of issues - but out of order. I didn't start collecting the title regularly until the Paul Smith run. It wasn't until years later when I picked up some X-Men Essentials to fill gaps in my collection did I get to read Claremont's early years on the book, sequentially. I gained a whole new respect for him. Sure, it could be a bit wordy at time, but he did an amazing job of weaving multiple plot lines in and out and giving each member of the team distinct personalities and motivations. The Dave Cockrum/John Byrne/Terry Austin artwork didn't hurt either!

I swear when I first saw the title, I thought it read Hello, Kitty, as a tea-up between Kitty Pryde and Hello Kitty. Only my sister and the country of Japan would want to see that....I think, ha ha.
Very cool cover as always though Ross. That X-Men cover is one of my favorite Kitty Pryde X-Men covers of all-time.
To be fair, a lot of the X-Men plotting was collaboration between John Byrne and Chris Claremont. It's the Marvel method; artist and writer work together on the story. In the case of X-Men, it was even more than usual - for example, Kitty Pryde was entirely John Byrne's creation.
This is a right purty cover, Ross - but so much of your work is that I rather expect it by now!

When I saw this team-up, I too thought that there would be at least an oblique Hello Kitty reference on the cover. Maybe next time.
