The Spectre and The Shadow

There aren't too many heroes that would make The Shadow nervous, but I think that The Spectre might be one of them.  It would be interesting to see how they interact.

If I saw the Spectre and he was looking at me like that I'd be nervous as eff myself! Hopefully they are both looking at something else behind the viewer rather than Spectre glaring at the Shadow, as I should think they'd be on the same side.

I honestly don't know what to say...as "Awesome!" seems wholly inadequate. I do like the alliterative title! Although, technically, the Shadow's real name was Kent Allard. The real Lamont Cranston being a globe-trotting multi-millionaire of the Depression era (what would be known today as a "jet setter") whose almost constant absence from Manhattan proved mutually convenient for both men.

While Lamont is to the Shadow what Matches Malone is to Batman, almost no one knew Lamont wasn't Lamont. Maybe the story refers to the original Lamont?? Be different and could involve the Spectre then. As to Spectre...WOW is only the starting point. Where is this from, Ross? Did you tweak it?

Great cover. It's in the running for the year's Top 10 best. Well done sir.

How about Geo-Force, Terra & Dr. Jace meeting Werewolf By Night in "Moon Over Markovia"?

Fantastic Ross! To Anon 8:57's & Detective Tobor's points, the persona of Lamont Cranston may have been an identity that was either concocted by The Shadow, or swiped from some unfortunate playboy who met an untimely end. After his run-in with The Phantom Stranger that placed greater demands on the Shadow, (thank you again for a great team-up!) perhaps now The Spectre has come to collect on some karma that is way past due. Maybe Jim Corrigan was counting on Kent Allard to watch his back, and Allard let him down.

Spectre Image is from a Linsner illustration: https://i.pinimg.com/1200x/a9/a5/ab/a9a5ab4c748bd5b21ffeb4965a6b21ed.jpg

I must agree that this is very much one of your best covers to date, Ross. I would've figured it to have been drawn to be like this in the first place if it was anywhere else.

Now we just need to add the Phantom and the Spirit, and maybe (Dark Horse's) Ghost, and you'll have a team. More likely, they'd function as a Defenders-ish "non-team"; but still, an alliance of "Haunting Heroes" would make for a fun concept.

The Shadow's real name is Kent Allard (this is from the pulp magazines not the radio show). He borrowed the name Lamont Cranston while he fought crime in the US. Cranston traveled the world while the Shadow used his name. Perhaps something happened to Cranston on his travels and the Spectre blames the Shadow.

How about "The Haunting Lodge"?

Thanks, Scott! I couldn't have said that better, myself.

@Ross: When I first saw today's posting, I almost thought you had neglected to link their first team-up. But, it turns out I was confusing the two-part Shadow/Phantom Stranger crossover with the (so-far) one-shot Spectre/Spirit teaming!

In any case, today's teaming is just plain brilliant. :-)

Wow. An absolutely terrific cover. The images blend perfectly - and I really, really, really want to know what's going to happen next. Is the Spectre reaching for Cranston's gun?
Or Cranston's hat?
Or Cranston?
Or...?
And what's Spectre going to do with the moon? Is he planning to hurl it at Cranston?
Let's see this play out further!

by the way, try this cover in just black and white.

More likely, he's just trying to nullify the Shadow's ability to escape into...the shadows.

Similar to the illustrations in the pulp adventures of Steve "Moon Man" Thatcher? ;-)
