Iron Man and Sgt. Rock

Joe Kubert didn't do much work for Marvel, so it was always a treat to see his take on one of their characters. I wonder which one of them I would most have liked to have seen him illustrate an extended run of.  A Joe Kubert Thor series would have been amazing.

I'm guessing that gloved hand holding the Luger on Sgt. Rock is the Iron Major. But, could the man in the red-and-gold armor be...Howard Anthony Stark?

Think about it. What other scientific genius on the Allied side, during WWiI, could design and build a suit of exo-skeletal armor patterned after GI Robot Jake? And who's to say that the mainstream Tony Stark didn't get the inspiration for his prototype armor (while a captive of SE Asian warlord Wong Chu) from a half-remembered glimpse at some abandoned plans of his father's.

As our host so wisely (and frequently) points out: "Anything is possible in the Ross-verse!"

Iron man wearing an army helmet is like having him wear a football helmet if he wanted to play football not needed

I initially thought the same thing about J.A.K.E. (the G.I. Robot) wearing a helmet. But, I gradually got used to it.

P.S.---another brilliantly unexpected pairing, Ross. It gives me hope that, one day, we might get to see Tim Hunter meet Harry Potter!

They met in 2019: https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2019/10/harry-potter-and-tim-hunter.html

How about Tony was sent back in time to that era. Built what he could with that available tech. Wore the helmet as a respect for the guy who lost it saving Tony's life.

Then, they're undeniably overdue for a sixth anniversary reunion! ;-D

Even better! That could set up a sequel where Tony Stark meets Toni Stark (public domain girlfriend of Golden Age time traveler Ace Buckley) and Shellhead meets Bozo the Iron Man (mechanical crime-fighting sidekick of Hugh Hazard).
