Deadshot Vs. Hawkeye

Deadshot was one of the few successful parts of David Ayer's Suicide Squad, so I thought it was too bad that the character would not be returning for James Gunn's follow up.  Maybe is the new film is a big enough hit to warrant a third film featuring Task Force X, we'll see Will Smith suit up again one of these days.

I take it the rest of the first sentence was meant to read "...that I thoroughly enjoyed for its faithful depiction of the comic book outfit?"

This inspired a new group: The Shooting Gallery. Hawkeye vs Arrow vs Deadshot vs Bullseye vs Taskmaster. The prize is the Target.

I'm figuring you meant "one of the few good parts," and I tend to agree. I was a little hesitant about Will playing Lawton, but I'd been resistant to him playing James West and, as in Suicide Squad, he became a pleasant surprise.

But fear not; my understanding of the situation is that Will's absence from the sequel is mainly because of a scheduling conflict against the film's original shooting dates. Neither he nor James Gunn (nor the studio, as far as I can recall) actually wanted him out of the movie. In fact, one thing I do know for sure is that Idris Elba had originally been cast to replace Will as Deadshot, but James decided to recast him as a different character so Will could come back as Lawton if he was available for a third film.

So far, the only thing I dislike about how the sequel is being handled is the title: The Suicide Squad. Giving us a sequel whose title is distinct by adding the word the is, at least to me, kind of lame. (The Batman is, at least, a separate movie from Batman.) Please, Mr. Gunn, give us something a bit more flavorful: Another Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad Returns, Return of the Suicide Squad, Suicide Squad: Round 2, or something with a secondary title like what's been done with Thor and Spider-Man (like Suicide Squad: This Time It's Personal).

Tobor brings up an interesting point (indirectly): We haven't yet seen an all-archer team. Green Arrow and Hawkeye could argue about leadership (they've had a long rivalry here, as well as in the Avengers/JLA crossover miniseries), but we'd also have Robin Hood, Merida, Katniss Everdeen, and possibly a couple of others. Call them the Bowmen or the Arrowmasters.

BTW, can you get CORVID-19 by playing Pokemon Sword or Shield? lol!

Really a team of 'Bowmen' would be amazing! The Archery Range is openned!

Considering avoiding related characters / derivatives / heirs of other originals, for a team of archers, we could have two options:

- Classic cover with overlay art:
-> Green Arrow, Hawkeye, Huntress, Yondu, Turok, Shaft (Image Comics), Manticore (Top Cow), Bloodbow (Top Cow), Bow (Mattel), Hank (D&D TV series).

- Photo cover, as Ross already did at #2703 Green Arrow and Hawkeye (The Movie!):
-> Arrow (Stephen Amell), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), Merida (Brave), Robin Hood (choose your favorite, I get the classic Errol Flynn).

When it comes to teams ... We all love TEAMS! (Forgive me again, @Ross, I can't resist ... lol).

Speaking of COVID-19 (as I was about to anyway), this might be an interesting time to bring back a partnership that I suggested before and got: Doctor Strange and Doctor Mid-Nite! This could become STF's first PSA cover! ("Our fate is in their hands -- fortunately, they know how to scrub them right!")

@Paganini: Merida would go into the "Classic" group, unless she was plucked from a screenshot of Once Upon a Time (though a better pick from that show might be Snow White). Oh, and my pick for Robin Hood would be Mr. Flynn, unless Ross wanted to go tongue-in-cheek and go with Cary Elwes.

For that matter, a photo cover with multiple Robin Hoods (even including John Cleese from Time Bandits) wouldn't be a necessarily bad thing. The same could be done many other characters, among them Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Sherlock Holmes, Zorro, and Peter Pan.

(Hm... multiple Peter Pans, all gathered by Access, might be an interesting story -- especially if it included the evil one from Once Upon a Time.)

@Bob, I am forced to agree with you again. Merida is more suitable in a classic version than in a photographic version. I don't think a TV version is more 'recognizable' than the one featured in the 2012 Disney / Pixar animation.

In fact, in the classic version, it would also include Danielle Moonstar, from the New Mutants ... at least the group's early version, which I always remember using bows and arrows.

@Bob, your suggestion from the 'doctor on call' introducing Doctor Strange and Doctor Mid-Nite is both brilliant and relevant to the current pandemic / hysteria facing COVID-19. Maybe even something like those covers from the 'Spider-Man's Public Service Announcement Comics' days.

'Two of the greatest heroes against a REAL invisible threat. but, who should enter this fight is YOU!'

I really hope that Ross considers the idea with the urgency it deserves.

More than just entertainment, this cover of this 'Greatest Team-Up That Never Happened but ... MUST have'!

Talking of teams, DC used to have 'The Forgotten Heroes' featuring a bunch of characters who'd been little-used for a decade or two before that: A version drawing on multiple companies' characters for this might work here...

@Simreeve, Before you have the Sea Devils work with Namor, hows about Rip Hunter and Professor Nichols and his time travel technique messing with a Kang project from the shadows?

Horsefeathers said...

Ya know, Kang, Doc Doom, the Tlme Trapper, Flash, Wave Rider, Booster Gold and Lord of Time, among others, have screwed around with the time stream so much that the stream may have gotten weak because of the number of offshoots from it. Anything might happen cause of that.

@Horsefeathers: Maybe even a cover featuring Buffy Summers' younger sister slaying vampires on behalf of 40th century simians and humans alike.

That way, Ross could entitle it...DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APE-PIRES!
