Space 1999 and Star Trek

With all the hoopla over J.J. Abrams taking over the Star Wars franchise, I wonder what will become of the rebooted Star Trek universe that he began.  Finally some names are emerging as candidates for the director's chair in the next installment.  The latest I have heard is Joe Cornish (Attack The Block), but others such as Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) have been mentioned as well.  Whoever takes over, I hope there won't be as long a wait for the third movie as there was between the first and second.  I also hope they stake out their own territory, rather than try to pay too much homage to a previous film or episode, something that really hampered my enjoyment of Star Trek Into Darkness.

It would be hilarious if Star Trek 3 featured the Mirror Universe! Ha!

The only thing wrong with STID was it departed too radically _far_ from the original universe!

Lobster-red versions of the space lizards from V as the new Klingons?! Nah-uh!

You, on the other hand, have a great talent for artistic homages. This "cover," for instance, could probably have been realized through the Enterprise being slung-shot back in time by a mirror-uinverse counterpart of the Guardian of Forever. So, keep up the great work!

Good crossover. Can you do Star Wars meets Space 1999?

@Ross: I think you can safely and officially consider your hope officially and permanently dashed. :-(
