Excellent premise! Now if we could just get these two to meet Detective Chimp, or Plastic Man (alias Eel O'Brian). O maybe even the Hit Monkey!

At one stage comics with apes or monkeys on their covers seemed to sell better than ones without, and DC actually set a limit on how often their comics could use them in order to prevent potential over-use...

I'd also love to see these two caught in the middle of a turf war between Ultron and Grodd vs. Cy-Gor.
How about an even half-dozen? That way, Ross could alliteratively label them...the Simian Six!
I mean, in addition to Grodd, there's Brainiape and/or Cy-Gor (both from Image Comics). Plus, all three of Red Ghost's Super-apes! Although, technically, the shapeshifting trick-shooter is actually a baboon.
And, yet, Marvel has no trouble recycling the pun "Ape X". From the still-comatose simian cyborg of Squadron Supreme fame...to the were-gorilla luchador who helped stopped a zombie invasion of Ape Earth-8101!

The Charlton Planet of the Apes comes to mind. They had the best licensed comics ever.
Including a limited series based on Konga!*
*The British pastiche of King Kong that starred Michael Gough (pre-BATMAN 1989) as a mad scientist.
Speaking of pastiches: with another Kong/Godzilla sequel coming out next year, how about cover-sims depicting Godzilla vs. Gorgo or Godzilla vs. Reptilicus? Charlton also did spin-offs of those movies, too!
On the subject of Ape-related puns, I remember the time when one of Grodd's schemes involved a satellite-based ray that transformed all humans within its are of effect into Ape versions of themselves... and one of the results was Chimpulse... :)
