Icon Vs. Thanos

Not only is Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU, now there are rumors that Thanos is poised to make a reappearance in one of the upcoming Avengers sequels.  It's all in the execution, but I do think that repeated attempts to go back to the well of what has worked before can look a bit desperate.  Let's hope that care is taken if this rumor should pan out.

It will probably be all in the execution, Ross. For instance; with the slight divergence in history caused by Cap, in "Avengers: Endgame" (in finally granting himself a long-overdue normal life), a loophole is created for all kinds of time/space discrepancies. Like, say, the debut of Galactus, as more than an interstellar smog bank, in the first canonical Marvel Film to feature the Fantastic Four.

Let's see if my coffee is working this AM. I practically grew up with Thanos, and I still hold that he is one of Marvel's greatest villains, look out Dr. Doom or Magneto! (That could a book, "Growing up with Thanos".) Plus, he's a versatile character; he's been a scientist, and a philosopher, although a dark brooding one that wasn't squeamish about carnage. Thanos even had to play the hero when he faced Galactus in the Thanos mini-series. The Mad Titan wasn't just another tyrant or conqueror; Jim Starlin used Thanos brilliantly to meticulously critique the flaws and weaknesses of various people and governments, and society in general. Marvel(Disney) still owes Starlin big time. Imho.

Definitely agree, the studio has to actually move forward at some point. Also, love the cover! Icon hasn't appeared here nearly enough! Course, that can apply to most of Milestone comics, aside from Static, but Icon is my favorite!

Both Downey's return and Thanos' are part of the multiverse. RDJ is playing an alternate Tony Stark who became Doctor Doom (in a way that doesn't necessarily preclude Victor from showing up later). Likewise, the Thanos we'll be seeing in Doomsday and/or Secret Wars will be different from either of the two who died in Endgame, and he probably won't stick around.

About today's cover, this is a nice use of Icon.
