It all comes back to Filmation.
Ah, yes! STAR TREK: TAS, which depicted the remaining two canonical years of the original (Constituion-class) Enterprise's 5-year mission.
And they made two Batman cartoons. If they can have Superman, Wonder Woman, and even the Lone Ranger (via time travel) crossover with The Brady Kids (long stories each), a Star Trek/Batman crossover isn't out of the question...especially given the Star Trek crossovers the comics have done lately.

And Leonard McCoy is descended from 'The Beast' Hank McCoy. So the famous quarrels are literally DC vs Marvel!
