I get it, Samuel L. Jackson is a great actor and it's been a blast to watch him in the role of Nick Fury in the Marvel movies. I just wish that the comics side didn't feel the need to take the Nick Fury that I have been following for decades off the table just because he doesn't look like the popular film version. It was the same deal with Hawkeye's costume - I understand why they went in a different direction for the movies, but was disappointed when the comics followed along by changing his outfit there as well. I prefer when the movies take their cues from the comics and not the other way around.

Marvel has ruined their characters completely. Agree on Nick Fury. Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales, Hulk, the list goes on and on. All to politically correct or to follow movies. I can see Bendis doing the same to DC. It’s why I don’t purchase comics anymore. Just not the same.

I guess I've been around long enough to know that comics are a mass-market medium that reflect current popular tastes and that those tastes are constantly changing. The average length of a comic 'generation' is about 5 years, more or less. Some of the changes are major (a new Nick Fury), some are just silly (the mullet Superman). So most of these changes don't bother me anymore. Occasionally we'll get a new character that's worth keeping around (the new Ms. Marvel), and the rest will be forgotten after all the fanboy whining triggers the next back-to-basics revival.
John Henry Irons wouldn't have been around during Invasion.
Heh! From the way Superman, Eiling, and everybody else is glaring at her, I would say it's a safe bet that Waller is responsible for Fury's presence in the DCU. Exactly how, I will not even hazard to guess!

This next part took looking up the Invasion Who's Who page and skimming through Invasion itself, but the big gray guy up front is Babylon, who is Dr. Megala's attendant. Dr. Megala is from the Captain Atom series and was edited out of the image for this Super-Team family cover.
Controversial it may be, however I Liked David Hasselhoff's portrayal as Nick Fury in the FOX network's Summer TV movie Nick Fury.

Marvel kinda sorta did this when Ultimate Nick Fury was sent to the Squadron Supreme's Earth after the events of Ultimate Power. :D This would have been a much better comic.
Well, I'm going to go full heretic here, but I figure if you all are the comic fans I think you are, you'll be OK. I am a black man/liberal democrat from New England who has been reading comics almost from the beginning of the Silver Age. So believe me when I say I like to finally see good representation of good black superheroes (as opposed to bad wannabes/minor cheap power characters).
That said, I have to say I am not a fan of Samuel Jackson Nick Fury, either in the comics or film. He came out of the Ultimate universe, which history will prove to be one of the worst mistakes out of Marvel, with a few rare exceptions. Black Nick Fury, wife abuser Hank Pym, out of control psycho Bruce Banner, Bully Captain America "patriot", etc. Every time I see Sam Jackson Fury, I think of every buddy cop movie stereotype of the cigar-chomping, yelling precinct captain. Ugh. Such a shame to take a great actor and comic fan like Jackson, and give him that role.
I prefer White Nick Fury. The entire character is based on his Howlin' Commando history, and his cool persona as the ultimate S.H.I.E.L.D. spy is unique in all of comicdom. Too me, Nick Fury is the ultimate white Army guy turned government agent. The man behind the mystery of what happened to Uatu. *That's* the REAL Nick Fury to me. And, of course, Steranko's version of him is almost beyond iconic!

Reg Aubry, I COMPLETELY agree with your assessment of the Marvel Ultimate Universe. I really didn't pay any attention to it until The Ultimates came along because The Avengers have always been my favorite Marvel comic. However, I didn't last long. As soon as I saw Ultimate Hank Pym spraying Ultimate Wasp with bug spray, I was gone. Some call it "edgy" or even "realistic". I call it "cheap" and "bad writing".
On a related topic, I am sick of fans who cry "political correctness" every time a nonwhite hero comes along. How is a black, Hispanic, Asian, Muslim or other superhero any more or less political than a white superhero? It's funny that NOBODY seems to have a problem with green superheros.
Btw: the floating guy with the green cloak is either the Spectre or Ragman. More likely, the former.
