Justice League of America and The Avengers in: "Depths of Deception!"

Marvel has certainly had many amazingly talented artists on its comics, but one has always stood out to me as having the "official house look" of the company. It should probably be Jack Kirby, but for me it was always John Buscema.  I can trace it back to many classic issues that he worked on, but most of all it's because of his contribution to How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, a book that had a huge impact on me as a kid.  I was very happy to give my decades old copy away to a young comic fan at a yard sale last year, I hope it inspires him as much as it did me.

The JLA and Avengers have crossed paths before on the Blog... Once leading to the League's expulsion... Once in the League's first headquarters and once in my first 100-Page Giant...

Ross, the JLA part of the image is from Aquaman's wedding, isn't it?

And I agree, Kirby was the King, but JB was the workhorse of The Marvel Age.

Assuming Skrulls were behind the machinations responsible for their prior two meetings, I would say the JLA and Avengers of Earth-STF are plotting a major counter-offensive that'll kick the Skrulls' butts all the way back to the Andromeda Galaxy!

Correct, Jay.

Oh, Batman can "breathe in space", but he needs a diving helmet to operate underwater??? Ahh, he's not so tough!

Anonymous wouldn't that put a Strain on Andromeda? ;7) Not to mention the Ascendant.

Anonymous Batman is a complicated man and no one understands him but his woman.

Where are Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy when we need them most, and what about: Neptune Jones, Dolphin, and last but by no means least THE SEA DEVILS (all 3 DC) (Reverberating Sound)? Stand By For Action, STINGRAY! (Century 21)

@Brother Barnes: still "Kraken" wise, I see. ;-)

Plus, don't you mean Neptune Perkins and Pirana Jones? Or are you, perhaps, confusing the latter with "Davey Jones, U.N.D.E.R.S.E.A. Agent?"

P.S.---sorry if I sounded like I was "Hamlin" it up.

With all due respect, Cary, I think you're confusing Ed "Pirana" Yates (Harvey Comics) with one of Luke Cage's Silver Age Rogues' Gallery.

I agree with much of the taste, but Ditko was very important for those who were "different " kinds of heroes.Since the original idea for Batman was to be a detective, I would love to see a Batman / 60's Vision working together.

Cary Comic it was Neptune Perkins. IDK about Davey Jones U.N.D.E.R.S.E.A. Agent at all.

What was the name of the mascot for Sick Magazine (short lived 1970's humor book similar to Cracked & Crazy)?

...hate to be bringer of bad/sad news, but have you all read yet about the passing of two comics luminaries...
Marie Severin (89) artist/inker and Gary Friedrich (75) the co-creater of Ghost Rider and long time Marvel writer....
i loved both yesterday's and today's covers...
good on you, Ross...

The green bubbles suggest something other than exhaled air.....

Marie Severin would have used a different color.

"U.N.D.E.R.S.E.A. Agent" was a short-lived spin-off of Tower Comics' "T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents." While "Pirana" was Harvey's version of the Sub-mariner.

@Richard S: maybe that's Skrull air being exhaled.

Cary Tower Comics, wasn't that a Tower Records venture in the 1990's?

Carycomic said...

Maybe. But, only because the original Tower Comics went bankrupt in the 1960's.

@Anonymous #1: his Silver Age astronautical antics were probably done with the aid of the same invisible space suit that Hawkman wore in the 1967 Filmation cartoons. ;-)
