Deadman and Vampirella

Justice League Dark has been officially announced as one of the next releases on DC Comics' animated slate.  It will be good to see Deadman back in animated action again, I loved his appearances on Justice League United and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.  Hopefully if sales on this feature are impressive enough, DC will give the property another look for a live action treatment as well.

A live action Deadman show could have a very quantum leap vibe that audiences would easily understand.

I agree with Martin. But, this raises the question: would Deadman's circus mask be as removable, after TV-death, as it was ultimately revealed to be in that four-issue DC story arc back in the Nineties?

If so, I would strongly recommend to the (still hypothetical) production company that they make Deadman CGI while wearing the mask. But, once he takes it off, Boston Brand's ghost look as human as the actor playing him.

@my above namesake: I think it's a pity Vampirella and Crusade Comics' Shi never teamed up against Chaos Comics' Jade (self-styled "Queen of the Vampires").

I agree with Martin. A Deadman TV show would play very much like Quantum Leap -- though if I were in charge I'd want to leave the actors playing the people Brand "possesses" in place, giving them the challenge of acting like him. I'd be open to being talked out of that, but that's what I'd want to do going into it.

As to Vampirella... I may have said this before, but I've always found her outfit (such as it is) a little unsettling, as being both impractical and arguably inappropriate for public wear. In a way, that may be the point, but I find it hard to look at (probably owing at least in part to being a devout Christian), and seeing cosplayers in the outfit only makes it worse.

I agree with you, Bob. At least from a combat-practicality standpoint. But, I'm sure the majority of Vampi's fanboys will _disagree_ with us from a prurient standpoint!

So, perhaps we'd better let the matter drop, right here, before we step on any more camel toes. ;-)

I've never come across this character before, and I'd go further than you, Bob. That outfit fits more into the mould of pornography than adventure/superhero comics.

As a gay Vampirella fan, I'd like to point out that Vampirella is unique in her choice of outfit as it's something she chooses to wear for herself rather than as a weapon or distraction. Usually, she is shown in a way where she dominates her sexuality, it empowers her, instead of as a sex object (usually, this posture isn't the best). This is further emphasized in her current series where she switches from a more modest costume to her original whenever she feels like it.

Actually, Cary, it is the prurience of the costume that bugs me, though I wouldn't go quite as far as the Anonymous poster calling it pornographic (though it probably would be a fitting outfit for a stripper). The knowledge that it's just something she chooses to wear, and the news that she does now sometimes wear something more modest (thank you Wolfsoldier, for that and the rest of your quite well-considered analysis), softens my problem with it.

Maybe the writers at Dynamite Entertainment heard your prayers, BG.

In a one-shot that teamed her up with a thinly-disguised spoof of BTVS, Vampi told the latter (after she'd made fun of the camel-tard) that feminine empowerment means wearing what she feels like...and killing all those who dislike it.

Yet, at the conclusion of a four-part crossover that teamed her up with the two most popular characters from DARK SHADOWS, she winds up wearing a pants suit simply because Barnabas Collins _told_ her she looked lots more attractive in modest clothing!

So, there is hope, yet. :-)
