Superman and Captain Marvel
When I think of Jim Starlin, my mind goes to his great artwork on Warlock and Captain Marvel. The comics that really made me a fan of his, though, were his issues of DC Comics Presents. His artwork on tales featuring Superman with J'onn J'onzz, Supergirl, Starman, Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl are among the best from that series and was a lot more dynamic than I was used to for Superman titles at the time. Nobody illustrates a space epic like Starlin!

I have always owned more issues of DC Comics Presents then Superman or Action Comics combined. And when I usually purchased an issue of the latter two, most likely other heroe(s) was sharing the adventure. Supes solo was just too boring for me.
my hope is the rebooted Superman in the New 52 is weaker, yet more interesting.
I actually prefer silvertop Mar-Vell. Just re-read the Superman/Spectre story last weekend.
For a minute I was going to say that this team-up had actually happened. Then I realized that it was Superman and Starman (Prince Gavyn version) vs. Mogul, in DC Comics Presents no. 36 -- with a cover by Jim Starlin!
That's a great issue.
