Here's another cover to got with the "two random heroes join forces to battle a monster" theme that Bob Greenwade has picked up on in the comments. I hadn't made these with a connected story in line, but I see how one could easily form. Given the arena setting here, perhaps the Grandmaster is behind all of these monstrous shenanigans.

Love that you went with classic Rocket, rather than MCU-inspired Rocket.
@ Ross: Either him or the Kraalian Skrulls. But, if the former, I echo Crazy Ivan's sentiments. I hope it's the classic Grandmaster rather than the dummed-down version portrayed by Jeff Goldblum.
With all the training Kartar got, you would think he'd be able to take down a lot more than he was shown to. Just wait till Big Bully realizes Kartar isn't afraid of him.
Unless, of course, it's a hyper-evolved shark giving off "fear-omones."

I agree with Crazy Ivan Ross. But I think the cuter, original Rocket doesn't pose any real challenge to Hawkman. Unless he pulls some wacky stunt when Kartar's back is turned. With your Yellow Submarine cover and the Crimson Dynamo reference, I guess I've had Beatles on the brain lately. Paul McCartney at least. I'm just a little curious as to why there never was any legal clash between Marvel and the Beatles over Rocket's origins. I think Rocket even had to find Gideon's Bible. Good exposure all around I guess. I'll have to go ask Dan.

Nah! DC over-uses him even more than Darkseid.
This pair isn't as random as some of the others. But even if the Grandmaster is involved with this particular situation, I still have a feeling that he's been unwittingly manipulated by the combined efforts of Brainiac and the High Evolutionary.
It's a little like a couple of years ago, when I was seeing so many time-displaced heroes that I was sure it was all part of a war between the Time Trapper and Kang the Conqueror.
I think it'd be really great (like, maybe in #4150) if we had the Avengers and Justice League (plus a couple of extras, such as Rocket Raccoon) bring this to a close by facing down B&HE. Then the TVA and LSH can work on Kang and the Trapper.
PS: Doesn't "Brainiac and the High Evolutionary" sound like the name of a 1960s psychedelic rock band?

Perhaps that's so, but Ross doesn't: 9 appearances here credited for Mongol, so far, as against 28 for Darkseid...
