Jack Kirby mastered the art of action in comics and his design sense was an inspiration to all. Murphy Anderson made everything look sleek and lavish, especially when he was on full art chores, but still quite evident when he served only as inker. I was glad to combine their two styles here.

The Scarlet Witch did not usher in the age of Mutants as some had guessed may happen.  Still, there seems to be some hope for X-Men fans - there's been a rumor of Marvel moving forward with plans for a movie titled The Mutants.  Not much to go on, and not even verified yet, but it's nice have some indication that the wheels are in motion to bring the Children of the Atom to the MCU.

With the casting for Kamala Khan set, The MCU seems ready to dive into the world of Inhumans.  The Eternals is on the horizon as well, yet another secret race of super powered individuals on Earth.  This is all very cool, but does pose a problem for when Marvel wants to introduce the X-Men.  Will they be able to differentiate mutants from all of the other groups of superheroes out there?  Why would they be shunned by a world that is already so used to metahumans?

Captain Comet and Thor in: Blake and the Behemoth!"

In my mind, Thor is still Don Blake.  I'm not sure why that aspect of the character eventually went away in the comics.  I like when heroes have secret identities, and this was one of the cooler ones.  Plus, the sight of an unassuming surgeon with a permanent limp striking his cane on the ground and transforming into the God of Thunder was always awesome to see.  I miss that.

With the surprising news of James Gunn's removal from the third Guardians of The Galaxy movie, many are wondering what will become of the final chapter in the planned trilogy.  Apparently a script is completed, so they could still get production underway on schedule if they have a director with the chops to take it on.  The best suggestion I have heard so far is Taika Waititi.  The visuals, music, humor and overall attitude of Thor: Ragnarok felt more like a Guardians film to me anyway, let's see what he can do with the real thing!

Flash Gordon and Captain Comet

I am always amazed at the level of artwork talent that worked on Flash Gordon comic strips.  Alex Raymond, Gray Morrow, Al Williamson, Mac Raboy, Jime Keefe, Austin Bridges, Dan Barry and more provided beautifully detailed illustrations to go with the thrilling tales of intergalactic derring-do.  I am sure that reading his adventures inspired many a future comic artist... not to mention members of the space program!

Apocalypse Vs. Captain Comet

On of my absolute favorite silver age artists was Murphy Anderson.  He had a great eye for composition and I really liked his depictions of nature and animals as well as how he illustrated beautiful women.  I loved him as an inker as well, it was always cool to see his polished work in combination with other artists.

George Perez is rightly hailed as one of comics' greatest artists, and for good reason.  His ability to make his characters unique in body and facial type and clearly depict action featuring a large cast is amazing.  Even beyond that, his attention to detail, particularly in his landscapes and backgrounds in quite impressive.  With so many fancy computer programs and coloring techniques available to comics, there is more opportunity for an artist to skimp on backgrounds these days, making me appreciate the effort that Perez has put in over the years all the more.
