Batman and The Shield

This cover was another case where it may look like all that was needed was to insert the Shield image on top of the Batman image - but there was a bit of clean up and prep work before I could get to that point.  Here's a look at the room staging:

The Defenders and The Crusaders

I remember the Impact Comics imprint that DC had for a short time.  I thought that the heroes included fit right into the DCU and had hoped they would be folded in to the continuity the way the Charlton characters were.  Alas, it was not to be, and they went on to be reintroduced and rebooted a few more times for other companies.

The Super Secret Service

I've been meaning to use Agent Liberty on a cover for a while.  I enjoyed the character when he appeared in the Superman titles and was disappointed that he never really caught on and became a more popular hero.  They presented a version of him on Supergirl, but it was a more villainous take that I didn't care for.  I have also been meaning to do a team of patriotic themes heroes, so this cover checked off a couple of boxes for me.

The Guardian and Captain America in :"The Great Shield Swap!"

It's been cool having The Guardian as part of Supergirl on the CW show, even if instead of Jim Harper or Jake Jordan, it's Jimmy Olsen behind the mask for some reason.  I would like to see him sporting a more colorful outfit and shield, to look a little closer to the comic book version.

This is the third team-up between these two - they last appeared together in STF #790, and first met way back in STF #69...

Captain America and The Shield

I hope everyone is having a happy 4th of July today (regardless of where you come from).  The town I live in has fireworks just a few blocks away, so all I needed to do was pull up a chair to my window and watch them go off last night, it was a blast (in more ways than one)!  Anyway, I thought today would be a good time to feature a double dose of Jack Kirby flag-bearing heroes.
