Superman and Triton

I always liked the design of Triton.  As much as I enjoyed Aquaman and Namor as characters, Triton's appearance seemed to make a lot more sense for a hero that spends his time beneath the waves. Plus, he just looked really cool!

Fantastic Four and Hawkman

Of all the DC characters that I wish I had seen Jack Kirby illustrate more, Hawkman would be at the top of the list.  He worked on the character in the Super Powers mini-series, and a sketch or two - and I really loved his take on the winged wonder.  How cool would it have been to see Kirby really let loos with a Hawkman series of his own?

The Guardian and The Guardian

Evert since I had these two appear together in a back up tale for STF # 665, I have received requests for them to get a full issue to themselves.  It took a while, but I finally got around to doing just that.

Edna Mode and 4 Famous Co-Stars

If you are going to wear a big initial on your costume, just be sure you are aware of who you are standing next to!  Let's hope these guys can get some fashion tips from superherodom's top designer!

Martian Manhunter and the Hulk in: "The Vengeful and the Verdant!"

I first presented a meeting between these two back in STF #1088. I saw the chance to feature Kirby artwork, and decided that it was high time for them to share a cover again.  This time around, it would be cool to see them join forces against a common foe.

Darkseid Vs. The Inhumans

I was a little surprised that I had not pitted these Kirby creations against each other yet.  Let's remedy that right now - it would make for an epic storyline after all!

Martian Manhunter and Captain America

I think that these two buccaneer booted battlers would work well together.  They are both considered to be the heart of soul of their respective teams and are each adept field commanders.  One is a man out of time and the other is a man torn from his world so they could bond in that way as well.

Martian Manhunter and Devil Dinosaur

Time for another all- Kirby confection. Are J'onn J'onzz' telepathic abilities enough to get these two to stop fighting and join forces? I don't know but it would be fun to watch him try.

Justice League of America Vs. The Mandarin

Jack Kirby truly revolutionized comic book art. In addition to his amazing creativity in designing characters, monsters and machinery, he added many new visual tricks to the genre.  His use of extreme forced perspective, as shown on this cover, is one that many other artists picked up on and emulated.

Firestorm and The Silver Surfer

I enjoyed creating yesterday's all-Kirby cover, so I decided to try another one today.  I think that this would be a powerful team up - cosmic power and nuclear power up against an unstoppable, hideous creature... sign me up!

Justice League of America Vs. The Invaders

Another Anniversary Issue has arrived, and this time I though I would go for an issue-long battle between two major teams that have yet to meet on this blog.  Who better to illustrate such an epic meeting that the King himself, Jack Kirby?  While putting this together I was fondly remembering back to Fantastic Four Annual #11 from 1976, in which Roy Thomas and John Buscema presented a meeting between the FF and the Invaders (with a Kirby cover to top it off), a great comic.

Captain America and Aquaman

An image of Jason Momoa's Stealth Suit from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been released, and it looks pretty cool to me.  It seems tp be inspired by the blue suit that Aquaman wore in his 1986 mini-series.  That look didn't last very long, but I remember liking it, and I am glad to see a nod to it here.  There's been a shot released of Momoa in the classic Aquaman garb as well, I'm glad that will also be back as it looks great on him.

Thor and Red Tornado

The Red Tornado's face has been presented many different ways over the years, from an unmoving robotic face, to robotic features that can make expressions (sometimes with a nose, sometimes without), to almost fully human looking.  I prefer somewhere in the middle, like he was depicted in the Justice League Unlimited cartoon.  What's your favorite look?

Red Tornado and The Falcon

Disney+ upcoming Falcon and The Winter Soldier series will explore Sam Wilson's decision to take over shield duties from Captain America.  There was a comic book counterpart to this story, and after a while the shield went back to Cap.  I wonder what will happen by the shows end, though?  Will it remain in Sam's hands?  Will Sam give it over to Bucky?  Or will Chris Evans rumored return to the role play into things?  Hopefully the delays are over and we will not have to wait too long to find out.

Black Panther and Hawkman

The Super Powers mini-series were generated to sell the toy line of the same name and I can't say that I remember the plot line.  I do remember picking them up because it would be the first time that I would see Jack Kirby illustrate some of DC's main heroes.  For some, like Batman and Robin, I didn't feel his style worked with as well as it  did others.  On the other hand, I really liked his rendition of Hawkman and would have loved to have seen what he could have done with an extended run on that character.

This is only the first part of a 2-part epic, so make sure you come back tomorrow for the exciting conclusion!

X-Men Vs. Darkseid

Justice League paved the way for Darkseid to make his cinematic debut, but now that a sequel seems unlikely to happen any time soon, I am wondering where we may see him.  Ava DuVernay's New Gods would make sense, but it has already been revealed that the villains in that film will be Granny Goodness and her Female Furies.  Still, how can you have a movie set on Apokolips without including Darkseid?  Maybe we will hear word of his inclusion as production moves forward.

OMAC and The Falcon

OMAC is another character that I am hoping will make an appearance on DC's Legends of Tomorrow.  For a time travelling show, they haven't spent much time going to the future and I would like to see more of that.  Maybe they can bring the already established Jonah Hex with them so they can do a riff on his futuristic Hex series.

Justice League Of America Vs. Dr. Doom in: "Sentenced - by a Sadist!!"

Yes, it was a toy tie-n and later in his career, but it was still very cool to see Jack Kirby's artwork on DC's premiere heroes in the first two Super Powers mini-series.  I especially liked his take on Hawkman and The Martian Manhunter, I'd have loved to have seen him do more with those characters.

The JLA has faced off with Doom before - They first crossed him in STF #462, and the last time was in an epic two-parter that began in STF #1199 and ended in STF #1200...
