Elektra Vs. Deathstroke

 

I'll never forget when Bill Sienkiewicz took over the art chores on New Mutants back in the day.  It seemed so jarring a change as compared to the artwork that preceded it, but I was curious enough to check it out.  It read like a movie to me, I was surprised how well it worked.

I think these two would work well together.  So much so, that I first featured this pairing way back in STF #47, an early MS Paint effort.  I felt it was high time that they met up again on the blog, especially when I could use the amazing artwork of Alan Davis to make it happen.

The Spirit and Elektra

 

With Denny Colt's tendency of getting involved with femme fatales, I figured that it was only a matter of time before he crossed paths with one of the greatest ever created, Elektra. Let's hope their working relationship isn't as fraught with drama and danger as the one she shared with Daredevil.

Elektra and Beatrix Kiddo

 

I remember seeing Kill Bill:  Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2 in the theaters when they were originally released, and finding them to be pretty entertaining.  The plot was just ok, but the various fight scenes is allowed for were all very inventive and beautifully shot.  I can't believe it been almost 20 years since they came out.  I haven't seen either film since, I wonder if they would hold up well if  I check them out again.

Dick Tracy and Elektra

 

Elektra was brought to life perfectly with Elodie Yung on Netflix' Daredevil.  Now that Charlie Cox is bringing DD over to the MCU, I hope that she will join him eventually.

I still say that Dick Tracy is ripe for a streaming show, with his amazing rogues gallery.  The correct profile with prominent nose is a must for the title role - I used to think Adrien Brody would be a good choice, now I'm thinking that Adam Driver  would be a decent option as well.

Batgirl Vs. Elektra in: "Crimes of my Father..."

Batgirl is another one of those characters that has many different costumes though the years, but in my eyes has never topped her debut look.  The one tweak I have really liked was changing the grey to jet black, like she did in the Animated Series.  The yellow gloves and boots may not lend themselves to stealth, but they look so good that I can forgive that impracticality.

Deadman and Elektra (Part Two)

Continued from yesterday's cover, we see why Boston Brand has been hanging around...

If the on-again, off-again Justice League Dark film ever gets made, I can see Deadman as being the breakout character.  Of all the heroes mentioned to be a part of the cast, he has the most likable, down to Earth personality.  His experienced yet humorous take on the occult situations that they encounter can make him someone that audiences can identify with.

Deadman and Elektra (Part One)

I have really enjoyed the character arc of Elektra in the second season of Netflix' Daredevil series, as well as The Defenders.  Elodie Yung is perfect in the role, capturing both the menace and the allure of the ninja assassin.  Now that she has a decidedly different status quo in the underworld, I am really looking forward to her crossing paths with Matt Murdock once more.

Elektra and Batgirl

The success of Wonder Woman bodes very well for Joss Whedon's upcoming Batgirl movie.  As with WW, Batgirl's popularity extends through comic book, animation and live action incarnations, inspiring generations of fans.  I think a Barbara Gordon movie could strike the same kind of nerve with audiences that the Amazonian Princess' did.

Justice League of America & The Defenders (and more!)

Welcome to STF #1600!  I hope you will indulge a non-cover-related commentary...

The Producers, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Stir Crazy... Gene Wilder starred some of my all time favorite films.  I was sorry to hear that he passed away yesterday.  I loved his performances as well as his relationship with Gilda Radner.  I hope they are reunited out there somewhere right now.  Rest in Peace, Gene Wilder  and thank you for all the laughs.

Elektra and Batwoman

The next season of Netflix' Daredevil can't get here soon enough for me. One of the aspects that I am most looking forward to is the introduction of Elektra into the series.  The relationship that she and Matt Murdock share in the comics is one of the greatest and it will be nice to see another take after the first theatrical attempt.  I mean, a plain clothes battle in a playground? I still shake my head at the thought of that scene.

Elektra Vs. Aeon Flux

Aeon Flux was a freaky show.  The animation was kinetic, and the fact that the main character was killed off in each episode was just one of the ways it broke the rules of traditional storytelling.  I liked the movie version OK, but it didn't really capture the feel of the cartoons for me.

Wonder Woman and Elektra

As soon as news of the Netflix Daredevil series was released, there has been much speculation as to who would be playing Elektra.  Some assumed it would be Rosario Dawson, but her role has been revealed as Night Nurse.  With production well underway, and no new announcements, I wonder if Elektra will even be a part of the show.  It is understandable that the show runners do not want to follow the same path as the movie, and maybe they are going to concentrate more on Karen Page as a romantic interest.  Oh, well - they have to same some stuff for season 2!

Katana Vs. Elektra

I have been recording and watching the remaining episodes of Beware the Batman, which the Cartoon Network is inexplicably burying at 3AM in the morning.  It is too bad that they had so little faith in the show, because I enjoy the interplay between Batman and Katana.  An early appearance by Metamorpho had me hoping that the Outsiders were in the future of the series, but alas, it does not seem to be.

Black Canary and Elektra

Here are two great characters that have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to live action adaptations.  The original Elektra storyline in Daredevil was epic which is why it was such a frustration to see the very watered down version we got in the theaters.  The solo Elektra film just expanded on the character they already got wrong so it was an even bigger failure.  Yes, Daredevil is being rebooted, but I can imagine they will ant to set it apart from the earlier film, so it may be a while before we see a live action Elektra done right.  An almost unrecognizable Black Canary showed up in the ill-fated Birds of Prey TV series, and the less said about that, the better.  She also appeared in a handful of Smallville episodes and was closer to the comics version - but her appearance was still kind of off with the close cut hair and "makeup mask".  I hear the role of Dinah Lance has been cast in the upcoming Green Arrow pilot, Arrow... hopefully this will be the most successfully realized version yet, time will tell.

Batman and Elektra

Everybody wonders who would win in a fight between Batman and Captain America, but here is a battle that I would really like to see. Both a great fighters, Batman has better gadgets, but Elektra is willing to be more lethal.

It's too bad that the vast majority of people only know Elektra from the mis-cast performances of Jennifer Garner in her two film outings. Hopefully folks who had a little interest from Daredevil and her self titled film checked out the comics and got a chance to see the correct portrayal.
