Squadron Supreme Vs. The Anti-Monitor

 

Something tells me that if there were to be a crisis in the Marvel Multiverse, it would star with the Squadron Supreme's Earth. It would be interesting to see if they would have fared any better against the Anti-Monitor's forces than DC's Crime Syndicate did.

Legion of Super-Heroes and Squadron Supreme

 

Getting the LSH on the big screen will face the same hurdles as Shazam!  if you want a series of films, you run the risk of the young actors aging too rapidly and they've already outgrown their roles in a few years. I knw Warner Bros.  is trying to get away from expensive streaming series, but that might be the best solution for such a property.

Justice Society of America and Squadron Supreme

 

Since the Squadron Supreme is inspired by the Justice League of America, it would be interesting to see them interact with the heroes responsible for inspiring that team.  You have to wonder how long it will be before Kevin Feige decides to introduce the Squadron in the MCU.  I can imagine Warner Bros wincing if they get their own feature before another JLA movie is put together!

Powerpuff Girls and Power Girl

Power Girl is one of those characters that I am really surprised has not made the transition to live action yet.  I figured we might see her by now in the CW Supergirl series.  Is it simply because her outfit is considered too revealing in this PC age we live in?  That seems like a simple problem to solve, if that is indeed the case.

What the...?  Didn't I just post STF #2000 the other day?  Time is certainly flying by! It seems like not that long ago that I was sitting on my bedroom floor reading 100-Page Giants and feeling like I had a whole lifetime ahead of me.  Today is my 49th birthday, and I am definitely aware of my age and mortality - but I'm still glad I have this blog and a love for comics and superheroes to help keep me feeling young!

This is the fourth meeting between The League and The Squadron.  The were last seen together in a two-parter that began in STF #1425 and concluded in STF #1426....  and they first met way back in STF #205...

Crime Syndicate Vs. Squadron Supreme

Lots of heroes face off against dark reflections of themselves, so why not an entire team?  The Justice League of America has inspired more than a couple of  doppelganger groups, and it's been interesting to see writers take them in different directions that the traditional JLA.

Squadron Supreme and Captain Marvel

The Shazam movie has been one of the longest percolating projects on DC's film roster. One challenge in bringing this classic character to life will be the age of Billy Batson.  I would think that they would want to get someone young enough that they can make a few sequels him if the first movie is a success.  You don't want Captain Marvel's "kid" side already needing to shave by the time the third film rolls around, after all.

JLA Vs. The Squadron Supreme in: "Last Team Standing!" Part Two

I was very sad to hear about the passing of artist Paul Ryan this week.  Like many, I first took notice of his work on the Squadron Supreme 12-Issue Maxi-Series.  I thought he did a great job illustrating Fantastic Four as well, even if some of the stories he worked on had some 90's indulgences.  Like Perez, he had an ability to work with large casts of characters without making the artwork seem too crowded. He was a gifted illustrator and he will be missed.

JLA Vs. The Squadron Supreme in "Last Team Standing!" Part One

Back in the days before intercompany crossovers became a reality, the only way fans could get an idea of what a DC/Marvel match up might be like was through analog characters.  The Squadron was always the best example of that in my opinion... maybe I just liked the fact that their Superman counterpart was a redhead like me.

The JLA first encountered the Squadron back in STF #205... and Superman faced off against Hyperion back in STF #144... Plus, who can forget when Dr. Spectrum joined the Green Lantern Corps...

Doctor Spectrum Joins The Green Lantern Corps

Geoff Johns is about to wrap up his time as writer of Green Lantern after several years, and it is pretty impressive to look back and see what he has done with the franchise during his tenure.  Among the highlights of his run were the revival and redemption of Hal Jordan, the revitalization of most of the GL rogues gallery, two of DC's best crossovers ever (Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night) and the introduction of dozens of new characters from Simon Baz to the Red, Blue, Orange and White Lanterns.  Sure, some of the rainbow-lantern corps shenanigans got a little repetitive and the movie adaptation wasn't the home run I was hoping for, but for the most part Johns was the best thing to happen to the Green Lantern franchise in decades.  I look forward to his future endeavors and  hope that the new creative teams will be able to keep the Corps flying high!

Justice League of America and The Squadron Supreme

George Perez' run on Justice League of America was way too short.  It was the best the book had ever looked and after only a few issues, he left to concentrate on New Teen Titans.  While that obviously turned out to be a wise move on his part, I always hoped he would return to the JLA one day.  Prez is still at the top of his game, so perhaps it will still happen sometime down the line.  I've seen his rendition of The Squadron Supreme in The Avengers and he is great on those JLA-inspired heroes as well.  How cool would it be to see Perez illustrate a JLA/Squadron team up?

Superman Vs. Hyperion

I always thought it was cool that Marvel had a team of JLA analogues in their super-group The Squadron Supreme.  The fact that their "Superman" - Hyperion - had red hair was an added bonus.  As a redhead, I was always looking out for heroes that looked like me, and it was great to have one as a team leader.  Marvel had been doing some interesting things with Hyperion and the Squadron, but once J. Michael Straczynski left those titles, they seemed to lose their momentum and stopped appearing before too long.  Hopefully they will be back soon, I've enjoyed them in all their various incarnations over the years.

Batman and The Squadron Supreme

The Squadron Supreme has an interesting history. They started out as analogues to the Justice League created to interact with The Avengers and that in and of itself was cool enough for me as a young reader in those days before even the first inter-company crossover. Fortunately the team was popular and were brought beck together or individually from time to time. They really broke out of guest star status with the great 12-issue Squadron Supreme series. That dealt for the first time with real world repercussions of a super team and the corruption of power. It was very unique for it's time and predated deconstructionist titles like Watchmen and The Authority which would follow to critical acclaim.

It's unfortunate that the most recent Squadron Supreme series was cut short when the creators left it. I hope to see someone pick up the reins and bring this cool group back to the forefront.
