New Mutants Vs. Darkseid

Looks like the New Mutants are in a tough spot.  It's too bad they didn't bring Magma along with them, she would have been a big help in this locale!

Spider-Woman and The Fly

Spiders and flies may not usually work well together, but these two may be an exception.  I do think that their costumes look pretty good side by side.

The Atom and The Hulk (Vs. the Floronic Man!)

The Atom first met The Hulk on this blog way back in STF #169, an MS Paint Cover.

This cover required a bit of prep work before I could add The Atom and Floronic Man into the mix - here's a look at the behind the scenes progress:

Wildcat and Cloak & Dagger

You know, I could go for an entire series centered around Wildcat training other heroes to fight.  You could have a rotating roster of guest stars coming to Ted Grant's gym to polish up their super-heroic fisticuffs as only he can. And as we all know, in comics when heroes gather for whatever reason, action is sure to ensue!

The Coven (Vs. the Wicked Witch)

The Scarlet Witch will have her own mini series with the Vision on Disney's upcoming streaming service, which sound pretty cool.  When will we see Clea though?  Although a Doctor Strange sequel has been announced, I haven't heard confirmation that the character will appear.  I hope she will though, she was a big part of the Doctor Strange comics I read growing up.

The Coven first assembled in STF #920...

Indiana Jones and Sgt. Rock

It seems like Stephen Spielberg and Harrison Ford are serious about making one more Indiana Jones movie together.  It will be interesting to see what they come up with, given the fact that Ford is not quite a spry as he once was.  Kingdom of the Crystal Skull definitely had its issues, but there were still enough fun moments for me to enjoy it - which I can honestly say about all of the sequels.  Nothing comes close to Raiders of the Lost Ark, though.  That movie is just about perfect in my eyes.  Will they be able to recapture at least some of that magic?  I hope so.

Sleepwalker and Sandman in: "While the City Sleeps!"

When I would read the JLA/JSA team-ups of my youth, one character looked cooler than the rest.  Wesley Dodd's non-traditional superhero garb really stood out against all the ore "modern" looks.  The hat, the creepy gas mask, the green and purple combo usually reserved for villains - it all worked perfectly!

The Spectre and Ghost Rider

The 90's were a crazy time for comics.  Poplarity and speculation were at an all time high and comic companies were doing whatever they could to keep up with the demand.  The Spectre and Ghost Rider were two characters that benefited from the influx of new titles.  Once a C-Lister, the Ghost Rider got a second chance and hit a chord with readers, going on to support multiple titles and becoming one of Marvel's star players for a while.  The 1990's Spectre series by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake was one of the best (and most overlooked) titles from the decade.  It's an almost perfect 60-issue run and it's a shame that more people dod not get a chance to catch it.  Hopefully now that Jim Corrigan has been reinstated as The Spectre in the New 52, DC will consider reprinting the series in trade paperback form..

Supergirl and The New Mutants

I was a big fan of New Mutants during its first few years.  First of all, it was just cool to have a spin-off book from Uncanny X-Men... which seems like a crazy thing to say today given the gigantic amount of X-related comic books out there!  At the time though, it was a very new thing and a cool way to expand the world set forth in the original title.  Wolfsbane was having teenage werewolf angst decades before those Twilight kids became all the rage!  Those early Supergirl stories also focused just as much on teen drama as they did with superheroic activity.  The tales would often be more about getting asked to the dance than defeating the villain of the month.  Still, I always checked them out, if only to enjoy the great artwork. Jim Mooney could draw some pretty girls
