Captain America and Air Wave

I actually experienced a few Brooklyn blackouts during my 20 years living in NYC.  I remember one time my friend in the building came to my place and we cooked everything in the fridge on the gas stove and played scrabble by candlelight while listening to battery operated radio.  We definitely made the best of it, it was a fun night actually!

The A-Listers

Marc Tyler Nobleman,  comics historian and Patron of this Blog, suggested I make an All-New A-Team cover featuring heroes with an "A" Symbol.  I hope he doesn't mind that I gave this new group a name of their own - I didn't want to incur the wrath of B.A. Baracus!  Thanks, Marc!

Electro Vs. Air Wave

Despite the fact that Sony is sharing Spider-Man with Marvel, they seem determined to build their own Spidey Cinematic Universe.  We know that there will be lots of returning villains from the previous Spider-Man movie incarnations appearing in the next film, but now rumors are swirling that their involvement will not end there.  Apparently Jamie Foxx's Electro is now slated for a solo film, like Venom, Morbius and the rumored Kraven the Hunter movies.  Once they have enough solo villain movies out, they will make a Sinister Six film, not sure that it will include Spider-Man or save that confrontation for a future big screen adventure.  It will be interesting to see how many of these rumors come to pass.

Air Wave and Dazzler

Even as a kid, I thought that skates were kind of a silly addition to a superhero costume.  They just seemed impractical - sure you could get around quickly, but then they were stuck on your feet.  A skateboard would make more sense, you can always jump off of that if necessary.  Better yet, get Tony Stark to make you some of those cool retractable skates that he has.

Photon and Air Wave

Monica Rambeau is long overdue for her live action debut.  Light-based powers shouldn't be too difficult to pull off so she could easily be featured on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  I'd prefer that she get the big screen treatment, though.  I'm thinking that the upcoming Captain Marvel film would be a good place to introduce her character.

Batman and Air Wave

Welcome to the Blog!

My favorite comic book series of all time was "The Brave and the Bold", which featured Batman teaming up with a different guest star each month and was illustrated by the great Jim Aparo.

I was disappointed with its cancellation at issue #200 because there were still so many team ups that I wanted to see. Bored one day, I decided to create covers of issues that I wished would have happened but never did.

I began with team ups from the DC Universe that the company never got to and posted them in a forum that I frequent. They were well received so I began to do some more and even take requests. Pretty soon I was branching out to more obscure DC characters, Marvel characters and beyond. At this point I have made well over 100 covers and a friend suggested that I begin this blog and feature a cover a day.

OK, that sounds like a good Idea, so here I go. I will post the covers alphabetically at first and then any new ones that have been created in the interim. Enjoy!

A few notes:

- Each cover was created by manipulating existing artwork using Microsoft Paint.

- My goal was to only include characters that never actually appeared in The Brave and the Bold and use artwork by Jim Aparo whenever possible.

And here we go!

First up is Air Wave:

This one was tough because I had a lot of complicated background to create after eliminating Dr. Phosphorous from the original cover. The Air Wave Image I got from an issue of DC Comics Presents. I always had a soft spot for the character but he hasn't seen much action in the past 2 1/2 decades. Yeah, he was just featured as a zombie in Blackest Night, but who wasn't?
