Alas, there was no mention of  Bill Foster when The Ghost returned in Thunderbolts.  I haven't heard that Laurence Fishburne is in the cast for Avengers: Doomsday.  Is there a chance he will appear in Avengers Secret Wars?  Or will we have to wait for the inevitable MCU reboot where perhaps a younger actor will take over the role?

Norman Osborne eventually tried using villains to form his own Dark Avengers team, so it's not much of a stretch to think that he might have tried that stunt with the members of the Suicide Squad first. It would be a cool tale to see play out.

Upon completing this entry, I made one new rule for myself going forward: No more barbed wire and chain link fences!  Man, this was a tough one to do.  Separating the fencing from the background was very painstaking and took much longer than I had expected.  Then I realized it wasn't working to just stick the Squad members behind that layer, and I wound up having to digitally separate them and add back in to make sure nobody was too obscured by any foreground elements or each other.  This turned out to be a pretty challenging cover, but I am happy with the final results.

Venom joins Suicide Squad

 

Now we are hearing rumors of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom joining in on the action of the in-development third Marvel/Sony Spider-Man movie.  With Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Jamie Foxx and Electro and possible even Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as interdimensional Spideys, this film looks to be jam-packed.  The current theory is that Wanda/Vision on Disney+, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the third Spider-Man film will combine to make a Marvel multiverse epic story line.

Deadshot Vs. Hawkeye

Deadshot was one of the few successful parts of David Ayer's Suicide Squad, so I thought it was too bad that the character would not be returning for James Gunn's follow up.  Maybe is the new film is a big enough hit to warrant a third film featuring Task Force X, we'll see Will Smith suit up again one of these days.

Spider-Man and The Suicide Squad

I am interested to see what James Gunn has in store for The Suicide Squad.  The large cast consisting of lots of C and D-list DC villains indicates to me that there's going to be a high mortality rate, yet comments from the actors point to a more comedic take than the David Ayer film. Set photos also show that Gunn will not be shying away from giving colorful costumes to the characters.  I just hope that Amanda Waller is given better material this time around.

Fantastic Four Vs. Secret Society of Super-Villains (and more!)

There's something about groups of bad guys banding together that always appealed to me.  It would probably be impractical for them, but the infighting while trying to work with one another to defeat the heroes usually made for a cool story.  Maybe it strikes a chord with me because I loved seeing The Legion of Doom on Super Friends, I'm not sure.  Marvel's Acts of Vengeance crossover, in which the villains swapped heroes to gain advantage was also a favorite of mine.

The Avengers and Suicide Squad

Avengers: Infinity War is sounding like it will be the most epic in scope of all of the Marvel movies thus far.  That's only fitting since it is considered to be the culmination of everything that has come before - and just about every hero introduced up until now is slated to appear.  That's going to be the biggest test - will the Russo Brothers be able to juggle dozens of character and give everyone a chance to shine, all while telling a coherent story?  It's going to be fun to find out, but I have faith in them after their excellent work on the Captain America sequels.

Deadshot Vs. Spider-Man

While Suicide Squad was a misfire of a film, I can't fault the actors.  Will Smith, Margot Robbie and the rest of the cast gave decent performances, but the script just wasn't there yet.  The use of pop music was very sloppy and haphazard as compared to Guardians of the Galaxy, which the film was clearly trying to emulate.  Still, I do believe that all the elements are there for a good SS film in the future, provided more care is taken with the story.

Bullseye Vs. Deadshot

I created a Deadshot Vs. Bullseye cover as one of my earliest "villain battle" covers, and I thought that I would revisit the pairing, this time flipping the tables and giving Bullseye the upper hand.  Deadshot has become one of DC's better defined villains through the writing of John Ostrander and Gail Simone in the pages of Suicide Squad, Secret Six and his own mini-series.  He has made a few appearances in other media (Batman: Gotham Knight and Arrow), but those appearances did not really depict the character as we know him fom the comics.  Hopefully he will get another shot to break out of the comics pages.  Bullseye was famously brought to life by Colin Ferrel, but that was more of a campy depiction than I was hoping for.   Daredevil as a film property is back in Marvel's hands, so I have confidence that we will see a more faithful portrayal should they use Bullseye again.

This would be an interesting match up. Maybe a quick one as well - these are two guys who never miss, so it might just be a matter of who gets a shot off first!  I liked the utilization of some of Bullseye's abilities in the Daredevil movie but neither his appearance or Colin Farrell's performance seemed much like the character from the comics.  Deadshot showed up on Smallville, but he was barely recognizable too.  I'm surprised he hasn't shown up in a Batman movie yet - he's the kind of low-tech villain that would work well in the films.

The Thing and The Secret Six

Secret Six is one of those fun books to come out of the last decade that will unfortunately be a victim of the DCU reboot, and that's too bad. I really liked what Gail Simone did to flesh out characters like Bane, Deadshot and Catman and the book had a wickedly fun dark sense of humor to it. Of course, there is some solace in the fact that there is a new Suicide Squad book amongst the reboot titles, and hopefully that will strike some of the same notes that Secret Six was popular for. Other than Deadshot, I don't know if any of the other characters from SS will apear in it.
