Gandalf and Bone

 

I was a huge fan of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy.  I loved every minute of them - even the extended director's cuts.  His Hobbit trilogy, I felt was a bit bloated and overstuffed -  it really should have only been a single movie.  So, I am wary about the new LOTR being prepared for Amazon Prime, will there be enough new material to explore?  I'll go into it with an open mind, Hopefully it will do Tolkein proud.  One show I am really looking forward to is the  Netflix adaptation of Jeff Smith's Bone.  I can't wait to see some footage so we have a feel for what the series will be like.  It's a good time to be a fantasy fan.

Ambush Bug and Bug

Three energetic characters named bug from three different companies, all with a predominantly green color scheme.  It's only natural that they would gravitate to one another in the the nonstop party known as the STF universe!  With their fun personalities, I'm thinking that a story featuring this trio would be an enjoyable romp.

Bone and Concrete

I was very happy to read that Bone is finally being adapted into a movie by none other than mark Osborne, the director of Kung Fu Panda and The Little Prince.  I am a huge fan of Jeff Smith's epic tale and can't wait to see it reach an even wider audience.  It really has everything - humor, adventure, suspense, romance, action and gorgeous visuals.  I could say the same thing about Paul Chadwick's Concrete, another character that is long overdue to make the leap to the big screen.

Bone and Tintin

I loved the Tintin CGI film from a couple of years abo and really hope that Peter Jackson and Stephen Spielberg find time in their schedules to continue the franchise.  Another character that would work very well with a similar type of film treatment is Bone.  Jeff Smith's epic story would be perfect for a lavishly computer generated movie.  I think there were serious talks about making such a film a reality  a while back, but I haven't seen or heard anything about it in a while.

Bone and Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh will always be a fond memory for me.  Not only did I love all of the character deigns by A.A. Milne, but it was also my entry into the world of theater.  My grade school put on a Winnie the Pooh play, and they cast me as Tigger, fitting for a hyperactive redhead.  I loved being on stage and the attention I got, and I stayed active in the theater arts for decades afterwards.  Bone is one of those comics that captures the magical, whimsical feel of Pooh and his forest friends.

Bone and Calvin and Hobbes

When I think of comics that bring forth a sense of wonder, these are two that rise to the very top.  Both feature simple yet extremely expressive characters combined with beautiful backgrounds and landscapes in stories filled to the brim with imagination. Their tales will touch you as much as they make you laugh and are truly must reading for any lover of illustrated fiction.

Band of Critters

Sometimes you have to take a break from all the angst and fisticuffs that comics usually offer and just kick back with good friends. good times and good music.  That's what today's cover is all about. Not only is this a group of some of the most likable characters, they all have an affinity for playing musical instruments.  I think it would definitely be cool to see them joining together in a jam session.

Metamorpho and Spider-Man

Metamorpho is nowhere to be seen in the New 52 DCU.  The closest we have seen is Element Woman, who looks to be involved with the Justice League at some point, so I had given up on seeing Rex mason anytime soon.  However, with yesterday's solicitations, there may be a glimmer of hope.  Katana #1 says that we will find the sword-wielding hero trying to "restore The Outsiders to their former glory".  Hmmm... so will we see the likes of Metamorpho, Halo and Geo-Force in the future?  We've already seen Black Lightning, but it's a youthified version who hangs with Blue Devil.  Who knows what the other Outsiders will be like when they make an appearance?

Phoney Bone and Uncle Scrooge

This was a suggestion from a friend and I thought it made for the perfect pairing.  You just know that Scrooge McDuck's riches would be just the temptation for Phoney to concoct one of his schemes.  Jeff's Smith's Bone shared a lot of the things that made Carl Barks' duck stories so great - simplified yet expressive characters set against lovingly detailed scenery in stories packed with action, humor and heart.  It's another reason why I really look forward to the eventual CGI films chronicling the Bone story line.  Hopefully the first film is still on track for a 2013 release.

The Thing and Bone

I had heard great things about the series, so I picked up a copy of the massive one-volume edition of Jeff Smith's Bone. I don't think I have ever devoured a TPB so quickly before, I absolutely loved it. Smith draws beautiful scenery and is a master of facial and body language which make even his more simply designed characters extremely expressive. The writing is just as strong, featuring lots of moments of action, humor, suspense, and even romance. I still laugh when I think of the parts with Bone writing his love letter to Thorn. This is a great book that you can hand to anyone regardless of their age or if they have ever read comics previously.
