Robin Vs. Morbius

 

I'm not sure what kinds of rules there are against vampires in children's animation, but Morbius did not drink blood in the 90's Spider-Man animated series.  Instead they depicted him feeding on human plasma through circular growths on the palms of his hands.  For me, that seemed grosser than biting someone's neck, but I suppose the producers' thinking was that they didn't want kids running around taking chomps out of each other to emulate him.

The Truants

I knew this would happen eventually.  Originally, the name of this team I came up with was "The Delinquents".  Little did I realize, a team by that name was already created (a spin-off of Quantum and Woody).  So, I had to go with my back-up idea for a name - not as cool sounding, but it still works, I guess!

Iron Fist and Robin

I was glad when I heard that Power Man and Iron Fist were going to be a part of  the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, but upon checking the show out, they aren't quite the characters we know from the comics.  Sure, the powers are there, but these are youthified versions of the Heroes for Hire to go along with the show's overall attempt at attracting a younger-skewing demographic.  It's a fun little show for what it is, but it really makes me hope for a more accurate depiction of Danny Rand and Luke Cage on the big or small screens.

Tim Drake has shown up in Young Justice, which has done a much better job of presenting the characters from the comics... and of course that show just got cancelled, along with Green Lantern! It's really a shame because I was enjoying both but The Cartoon Network's erratic episode scheduling never gave them a fair chance to build an audience.

The Thing and Robin

I was one of the fans who kind of rolled their eyes when Tim Drake, the third Robin, was introduced. I think the practice of having multiple characters take on the same heroic alias often runs the risk of diluting the characters. In this case, however, I must say that I was quickly won over. Tim Drake was presented as a very competent partner to Batman and had talents that made him stand out from Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The writers also gave him an appealing personality (especially when compared to Todd) and it gave the Batman titles some much needed levity after years of stories featuring the ultra-grim Batman in the wake of The Dark Knight Returns. Now there is yet another Robin in Damian Wayne (not to mention a second Batman) and my concerns about Diluting the characters are back. Drake is now Red Robin and I feel is kind of being lost in the shuffle. It will be interesting to see how things shake out in the Batman family in the next few years.
