Spider-Man Vs. The Joker in: "Who's Laughing Now?"

I thought that I would do a follow up to the first Spidey/Joker back in STF #3917.  I wondered there how The Joker would react to a hero that's even better at wisecracking than he is.  Well, maybe he would lean into it and try to make a protégé out of Peter... which leads us to this cover.

Sub-Mariner and Code Name: Gravedigger

I finally saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and while I tried to keep an open mind, I was pretty disappointed with the depiction of Namor.  The beard and moustache, the lack of signature haircut, the huge and distracting earrings, headdress and bone through the nose, the dad bod... other than green trunks and ridiculously oversized ankle wings, they made no attempt to bring the comic character to life.  Namora and Attuma were equally unrecognizable. Talokan was quite unimpressive after seeing James Wan's take on Atlantis in Aquaman.  So OK, MCU Namor is just  a different character - but then he commits a crime against the Wakandans that is so bad that I don't know how we as audience members are expected to ever root for him in future appearances.  If he does show up again, I hope Marvel finds a way to get him closer to the antihero we know from the comics..

Deadman and Shanna & Ka-Zar

I wondered in an earlier post about whether The Savage Land would show up in the MCU.  While I do think it will eventually, now I wonder just where it will appear.  I doubt Ka-Zar & Shanna would get their own film but could they and their home show up in another?  Perhaps a third Black Panther installment or fifth Captain America film?  Maybe Shang Chi could visit in a sequel of his own?  The Fantastic Four are always exploring new lands, maybe they could discover it down the line.

Silver Surfer and Green Arrow

Ever since Superman and Batman became the World's Finest team, I've liked the idea of heroes working together despite mismatched powers and abilities.  So here is another pairing in that spirit.  I'd be interested to read a story that called for an alliance between these two.

Doctor Strange and Adam Strange in: "Strange New World!"

This marks the sixth appearance of The Strange Brothers.  They were last seen escaping Hell in STF #3163, they faced their wicked uncle in STF #2801, They were forced to do penance in STF #2649, they were trying to escape from Limbo in STF #2146, and they were first revealed to be brothers in STF #370...

Guy Gardner and Colossus

I was really looking forward to seeing a live action portrayal of Guy Gardner, but now that the Lanterns series for HBO Max has been retooled he is no longer a part of it.  The show now promises to focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart.  Perhaps once the series is up and running, there will be a place for Guy to join in on the fun down the line.

Stupendous Man and Power Man & Iron Fist

Genndy Tartakovsky wrote and illustrated a Cage mini-series that came out in 2016, and I would love to see an animated adaptation of it.  Tartakovsky's work on Samurai Jack, Clone Wars and especially Primal have made me into a giant fan of his, and I look forward to any new project that he announces.

Batman and The Imperial Guard

Continued from yesterday's cover, we see that Batman has no shortage of suspects to interview.  It's a good thing he's the World's Greatest Detective!  I remember the cool issue of The Brave and the Bold where Batman visited the Legion of Super-Heroes to solve a crime.  I liked the respect the LSH showed him in that story, but I don't know if he would get the same amount of reverence from the Imperial Guard.

Batman and Gladiator

I'd love to see Gladiator and the Imperial Guard join the MCU at some point.  The Kree has already been established in Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel, so it shouldn't be too hard to bring them in.  The large cast is daunting though, maybe just introduce Gladiator and a couple of other members first before bringing the whole team in.  I can see them being antagonists and then eventual allies in a 4th GotG movie, whatever that group looks like once the upcoming Vol. 3 is done.

This is only part one of a two-part epic, so make sure you stop by again tomorrow for the exciting conclusion!

The Avengers and Warlord

Marvel has had the jump on DC when it comes to getting their characters and concepts into the movies for a while now, but DC has had a few wins so far.  Getting their version of Atlantis on the screen before Marvel could introduce Namor was a big one.  Now I am wondering which prehistoric society will show up first - Warlord and Skartaris or Ka-Zar and the Savage Land?  I haven't heard of plans for either, but I hope we'll see one or the other in the next decade.

Metamorpho Vs. The Hulk in: "Orb Wars"

When I first featured these two together, it was a more quiet and thoughtful adventure in STF #3158.  I figured that it was time they saw a little more action with one another.  This would actually be a decent battle.  Rex Mason's power set could really give old jade jaws a run for his money.

The Fantastic Four and Aquaman

One of the cool thing about The Fantastic Four being a family is all the story possibilities that are presented.  You don't need a reason for all of the heroes to gather in one place when they live together and share each others lives.  They are just as likely to be found on vacation or hanging out at home as they are getting together for a strategy session.  No matter where the FF found themselves, action and excitement always seemed to find them.

Magnus: Robot Fighter and Red Tornado

Not much has been revealed about Superman: Legacy yet, but I hope we get word on a villain for the project soon.  I think that most Superman fans agree that it's high time that Brainiac showed up in the movies.  Just imagine how cool that ship of his would look on the big screen!

Magnus first crossed paths with Red Tornado in a Robo Force adventure presented in STF #2090...

Union Jack and Doctor Fate

Carlos Pacheco is another artist that we lost far too soon in the past year.  His work on JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice among many other projects was always impressive to behold.  He was able to give each character unique faces and body types and could convey a truly epic  sense of grandeur in his superhero tales.  I also read that we lost the talented Lee Moder this past week as well, also at a young age.  I enjoyed his work for DC comics, particularly with the Legion of Superheroes and Stargirl.  May they both rest in peace.

Batman and Cool McCool

Thanks to Jeff O'Hare, a Patron of this Blog, for suggesting this meeting between Bob Kane creations.  Cool McCool didn't quite hit the heights of the Dark Knight Detective.  Perhaps if Kane had asked Bill Finger to flesh out the concept, things could have gone differently.

Brother Power The Geek and Brother Voodoo

I've been meaning to use Brother Power for years, and am just now finally getting to it.  He's a pretty obscure character, but unique enough that it's too bad he doesn't get more appearances.  Is there a place in today's cynical world for a flower child hero?

Deathlok and The Creeper

These are two awesome characters that never seem to get past the C List.  They are both A-List in my book though.  The Creeper is probably too outlandish for a live action treatment, but James Gunn does like the oddball heroes, so who knows?  Deathlok had a low rent live action appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but the less said about that disappointing attempt, the better.  Let's hope the MCU proper gives him another shot.

The Thing and Wildfire

We've all been waiting patiently for actual casting news (not just rumors of the week) for Marvel's Fantastic Four movie, and it finally seems like that is imminent as Director Matt Shakman needs to begin filming soon.  The next big wait will begin then - to find out what The Thing will look like.  I imagine that will be one of the final reveals before a trailer is released so it will probably be at least another year before we get that information.  They can take their time, I just want them to get it right, he's easily my favorite Marvel character.

Superman and Throg

We say Throg the Thor Frog make a cameo in the first season of Loki.  Now that the Disney+ series is set to return, I really hope we get a chance to see him again.  Let's see him break loose from his bottle trap and pull off some mini-Mojlnir stunts! I know that I would certainly be entertained.

Throg met the Man of Steel along with some other JLA members back in STF #557...

The Beast and Wildcat

One guy dresses like a big blue cat and the other guy looks like one.  It was about time these two got into business together.  Look like their first case is an explosive one, though!

Catwoman Vs. The Shadow

In the 90's the big comic book action movie stars were Batman, The Rocketeer, The Phantom and The Shadow.  Each of them have been brought back to the big or little screen since then except one notable exception.  Where are the new adventures of Lamont Cranston's alter ego?  It's high time we had a new live action version of The Shadow.  Perhaps a period piece streaming series would be the way to go?

Batgirl and Doc Samson

Long time followers of this blog know that this confrontation has been brewing for a while now.  Commissioner Gordon was first summoned to Mongo by Flash in STF #2535, Barbara Gordon began searching for him in STF #3879, and finally tracked him down and went to collect him in STF #3535. It's good to see them back home safe and sound.

Howard The Duck and The Spectre

Sharp eyed viewers glimpsed Howard The Duck showing up with all the returning heroes in the finale of Avengers: Endgame.  He wasn't at Tony Stark's funeral, so where did he go from there.  Did he return to space with The Ravagers, possibly setting up an appearance in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film?  Perhaps he stayed on Earth to begin some adventures there.  The point is, he could really show up anywhere now, so where would you like to see him?  I wouldn't mind seeing him and She-Hulk get involved in a case together at some point.

The Club

I first was just going to put together a team of pre-historic heroes and then I noticed a common weapon that they all liked to use and this cover really started to come together.  It even made for the perfect name!  I can only assume that Alley Oop first decided to gather this team when he met Captain Caveman and Bamm Bamm's future Father in law in STF #3331...

Daredevil and Static

There has been some talk of a Static movie in the works, and I thought that possibly it would have been announced as part of James Gunn's DC plans.  Static has crossed over with the DCU in the comics and in the animated shows as well, so I thought that maybe there was a chance.  It looks like the Milestone characters will get their own cinematic universe.  Let's hope they get started soon, it's getting crowded out there!

Black Knight and Dawnstar

Did you guess the correct Legionnaire to accompany The Black Knight back to his era from yesterday's cover?  Who better to locate an important lost artifact than one of the 31st Century's best trackers?

Marvel laid the seeds for The Black Knight in Eternals.  Let's hope we won't have to wait years before we see Dan Whitman on the big screen again, so that he can fully embrace his heroic destiny.

Legion of Super-Heroes and The Black Knight

Presenting Part One of a Two-Part Epic!  It looks like The Black Knight has traveled a long way to find one specific Legionnaire.  But which one of the future heroes depicted on this cover is he hoping to recruit?  Make sure you come back tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion!

Swamp Thing and Judge Dredd

Looks like Dredd is out of his jurisdiction, which usually makes for an entertaining tale. He wouldn't be there unless the was chasing down some kind of larger threat.  Let's hope that he and Swamp Thing can work together to confront whatever it may be.
