For some reason, this made me suddenly think of those characters who were the support for the Dick Tracy animated series. Guys(?) like Hemlock Holmes and the assortment of culturally insensitives.

Here's a wild pairing. Buffy and The Watcher. Since she had a group looking out for her called "The Watchers", it only makes (a twisted kind of) sense that "The Big" Watcher would take an interest in her.
Now THAT'S a team-up I would love to see!
I vaguely remember that cartoon series! It came on after the Secret Squirrel/Atom Ant Show (11AM-12PM) circa 1967. Which, I guess, technically made it an early Saturday afternoon show! But, to me, Saturday morning lasted right up till the last cartoon show signed off for the weekend. Obliging me to reluctantly turn over custody of the TV room to my folks!

This is my first exposure to Cool McCool. Hopefully, this won't be his last time on this blog; I could see him being paired with his cyborg successor-in-spirit, Inspector Gadget. You could also pair him with Astro City's Jack in the Box, to battle the latter's near-namesake McCool villain (probably with a certain fast food restaurant's mascot in the frame as well).
@Bob: if I recall correctly, he was supposed to be a send-up of Maxwell Smart(a spoof of a spoof???). Albeit, drawn to look like David Niven!
But, yeah, I agree. If Ross could team him up with Inspector Gadget, Agent Tom of T.H.U.M.B. and Inch High, Private Eye, we'd have a whole new version of the Trenchcoat Brigade! It would especially be fitting with Gadget and Agent Tom, seeing as they both contended with subversive organizations acronymically known as M.A.D.
@bigjeffoh: So it was Finger who came up with Robin? That's actually kind of ironic given the controversy surrounding the whole concept of the "kid sidekick". In fact, Stan Lee created Spider-Man partly out of distaste for that trope.
BTW In case anyone's wondering, I've been coming to this blog long enough to know that Ross doesn't really observe Valentine's Day.
Well, let's face it. Valentine's Day is just a candy company conspiracy! The total opposite of Halloween, of course. ;-)

Wow, Ross! You've successfully captured three different styles of animation, here. Cool McCool from King Features/Artransa. The Filmation version of the Penguin (from the 1968 Saturday morning show with Superman and Batman). And the Kane/Finger-style of Batman from the opening credits of the live-action ABC series that starred Adam West in the title role!
