Human Torch Vs. Enemy Ace / Unknown Soldier and Miss America

 

With recent rumors of a Sgt. Rock movie featuring Daniel Craig making the rounds, I wonder what other DC Comics' war stars could be featured in such a project.  I'd love to See The Unknown Soldier or Mademoiselle Marie show up, but I'd be satisfied with the rest of Easy Company.  Let's hope this film comes to fruition rather than fade away like the Stephen Spielberg Blackhawk movie plans from a few years ago.

Indiana Jones Vs. Enemy Ace

 

I still haven't checked out the latest Indiana Jones movie.  What I saw did not fill me with confidence and the lackluster reviews have not been encouraging.  Still, I am at least curious about the flashback sequences with a de-aged Harrison Ford, so I'll check it out for that reason once it hits Disney+.

Enemy Ace Vs. Sub-Mariner

When we finally see Namor join the MCU, I wonder if the above look or something close will be used.  The green speedo is more iconic, and I am sure it will make an appearance, but I don't imagine they will want to keep an actor wearing just that for most of the movie (and especially if someone signs a 10-year contract).  I always thought that this back up design was cool, and will be happy if the live action Sub-Mariner wears it.

Enemy Ace Vs. The Rocketeer

I recently rewatched The Rocketeer and it is amazing how well the film hold up after 20 years.  A couple of the flight scenes have slightly dodgy special effects, but other than that I would put ir right alongside any of today's superhero blockbusters.  I was thumbing through my Dave Stevens Rocketeer hardcover as I watched it and it really is the comic coming right to life - the characters and designs in the movie are all spot on.  Between it and Captain America: The First Avenger, Joe Johnston has made two of my all time favorite comic flicks ever.

Airboy and Enemy Ace

I was fortunate enough to briefly say hello to Joe Kubert a couple of times at conventions late in his career.  I was very happy to get the opportunity to thank him fo r all the pleasure his art and creations had given me over the years.  What really stood out for me was when I shook his hand - the man had a grip of iron!  Clearly forged from deftly utilizing a pencil and pen for over seven decades!

Captain America Vs. Enemy Ace

One of the great things about Captain America is that he is a character that works equally well in two time periods.  His wartime adventures are exciting and truly bring out the soldier aspect of the hero.  His present day stories are expand upon those early adventures and show how a man out of time reacts to the struggles of the current era. I loved Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but I would not have minded another adventure set in World War II.  The good news is we will still get a taste of that with the upcoming Agent Carter TV series.

Snoopy Vs. Enemy Ace

One of the great things about Snoopy was the way Charles Schulz let readers in on his imagination.  We went along for the ride as he envisioned himself as Joe Cool, a prize-winning author, or a crack fighter pilot.  I'm sure that aspect of the Peanuts comic strip was one of the many things that served as an inspiration for future cartoonists like Bill Watterson.

The Thing and Enemy Ace

Enemy Ace was another title that I did not pay very much attention to until I started looking around for Joe Kubert illustrated stories that I had not read yet. I picked up the Showcase collections and was drawn right into the stories. Very cool wartime drama that is markedly different from the stories I had been reading that featured Sgt. Rock, The Haunted Tank or The Unknown Soldier. With Ben Grimm's piloting experience, I think this would be an interesting combo.
