Transformers and US 1

 

I always thought there might be a connection between these guys.  I mean, look at the matching color schemes on Optimus Prime and the US 1 truck - that can't be a coincidence!

The Atom and Transformers

 

Continuing our Two-Part Epic, we see just where Megatron has been hiding out. There were some rumblings about The Atom getting his own movie, with Ryan Choi and Ray Palmer - but that was well before Discovery took over Warner Bros. and started axing projects left and right, so I am going to assume that whatever was planned has gone away.  I am guessing that we'll just have to wait a few months for the dust to settle before we start getting a true idea of what the future of DC's cinematic universe will look like, and if B-listers like The Atom will get a chance to shine.

Justice League of America and Transformers

 

Presenting Part One of a Two-Part Epic! There are plans for yet more Transformers movies.  I can't say they have maintained my interest with each new sequel, but perhaps some new life will be injected into the franchise since Michael Bay will be passing the directing duties on to someone else.

So who is the Leaguer that Optimus Prime is referring to here? Make sure to come back tomorrow for the exciting conclusion!

Luke Skywalker and Optimus Prime

I had many issues with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but the biggest one was the treatment of Luke Skywalker. I had waited decades to see him back in action, and a brief hologram battle followed by his unceremonious death was underwhelming to say the least.  I know that he will be a part of the next installment in some way, so maybe JJ Abrams will find a way to redeem him - With a name like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I hope so!

Transformers and Steel

John Henry Irons is another character that I'd love to see in live action - done right this time (sorry, Shaq). It looks like we will see Superman's resurrection at some point in Justice League, so that rules out the possibility of a "Reign of Supermen" film, which could have been very cool.  Supergirl on the CW seems like another perfect opportunity to feature Steel, I hope the producers don't pass it up!

The BIG League

It was cool seeing both Ant-Man and The Atom grow to giant-size and battle in Captain America: Civil War and DC's Legends of Tomorrow respectively, but I have to admit that I had the same issue with both action sequences.  I'm not sure why when they size up, they suddenly start moving in slow motion.  It seems to undermine any advantage they get from being huge.  Wouldn't they still move around at a normal rate?

Metal Men and Transformers in "Prime Directive"

I caught Transformers: Age of Extinction on video the other day, going in with low expectations.  Even so, this movie was a disappointment.  It was overly long and the usually reliable Mark Wahlberg was not enough to distinguish the plot form any of the other Transformers movies for me - it's all one big jumble at this point.  I am still cringing at the scene where Wahlberg stops in the middle of a robot battle to enjoy a cold Bud Light from a crashed Bud Light delivery truck - just shameless.

The Fantastic Four and Transformers

The latest Transformers film is out, and for me it is hard to get excited about it after the second two installments in the franchise, which I found to be noisy messes with juvenile humor.  The addition of Mark Wahlberg and the Dinobots originally had me a bit interested, but the movie's reported 2 hour 20 minute run time and lackluster reviews have convinced me that it will be a rental at most.  I'm sure the film will make boatloads of money though, so I don't think Michael Bay is too worried about my  lack of support.

Transformers and The Iron Giant

Just when I thought Michael Bay had said all he wanted to about Transformers, it seems that he is going to continue the franchise, now to be headed by Mark Wahlberg.  I liked the first film as a big splashy summer pic, but the two sequels seemed overly long and redundant, hampered by juvenile humor.  Still, they made a bajillion bucks so it shouldn't be too surprising that a fourth installment is in the works.  Will Bay finally give us the darker, edgier film he has been promising, or will he stick with the formula that has been raking in the bucks?  I guess we will have to wait to seem some footage to make a judgment.

Batman and The Outsiders and The Transformers

I was hoping that there would be a place for The Outsiders in DC's New 52, but I don't know if that is going to happen.  Metamorpho has been replaced with by Element Woman, Black Lightning is hanging out with Blue Devil, Katana is about to join the JLA, and Geo-Force & Halo are nowhere to be found.  I'm sure that I am not the only fan of the team, though, so perhaps there is still a chance that we will still see them together sometime in the future.

Metal Men and Transformers

I understand that Michael Bay will be staying with the Transformers franchise, but promises to revamp it with a completely new cast, to be led by Jason Statham.  While the previous movies have some great moments of spectacle, they are undone by flat attempts at humor and overly long running times.  We'll see if the new film adjusts for these shortcomings... but I don't expect Bay to take my advice, given the hundereds of millions the films have earned.  Now, Bay producing a big-screen Metal Men epic?  That's a movie I would be first in line for!

Batman and Transformers

I was a little to old to get into the Transformers cartoons when they first aired. I was aware of them but I was more of a Shogun Warriors or Micronauts kind of guy. So I did not start to learn anything about the characters until the first Michael Bay film. That movie was loud and preposterous, but I must admit that I found it to be big, goofy fun for the most part. Unfortunately the sequel is a bloated mess, In my opinion. Way too long and filled with some of the unfunniest "humor" I have seen in any movie. If you must watch this, just fast forward to the robot battle parts. Hopefully lessons were learned and the third installment will be more watchable.
