Sub-Mariner and Blackhawk in: Crimes of the Killer Shark

 

It's good to see these two working together, after they were clearly at odds when they first met on this blog in STF #3855. I wouldn't want to be in the Killer Shark's flippers right now...

Blackhawk and Indiana Jones

 

The Blackhawks are a DC team that I was not expecting to ever show up in live action.  The Sgt. Rock movie plans seem to me very much underway, however.  I've been hoping that such a project would include other classic DC Comics war stars.  Maybe those heroic pilots have a chance of appearing after all.

Blackhawk and Sub-Mariner

 

So what was that announcement a couple of years back that Steven Spielberg was interested in helming a Blackhawk movie?  Maybe is was just a passing whim, because I never heard any more about it beyond the original headline.  I'd be shocked if interest in the making the film has remained throughout all of the still-ongoing changes at Warner Bros.  It's too bad, because I'm betting that Spielberg could have done something really special with the property.

Sgt. Fury and Blackhawk

Blackhawk is another one of those DCEU projects that was announced, and seemingly forgotten.  None other than legendary director Stephen Spielberg was named as director, which got me very interested... and then nothing.  I haven't heard a peep about this movie since that initial announcement, I hope that it is still on.

Blackhawk and Han Solo

As you can see, Blackhawk is still hanging around the Millennium Falcon, which he first encountered in STF #2005... but this time around he has to deal with the true owner.  It will be interesting to see the origins of The Falcon in the upcoming Solo film.  It was cool to see it all polished and new in the trailer, before years of wear and modifications have been made.

Blackhawk and Airboy

I am assuming that the Han Solo movie will feature plenty of The Millenium Falcon, and it will be cool to see some of its secrets revealed.  Will we see a shiny new Falcon, from before years of modifications and battle damage?  Will we see the fabled Kessel Run?  How about when Solo won the Falcon from Lando Calrissian?  I'm betting we will see at least one of those scenarios.

Blackhawk and The Rocketeer

I remember with fondness DC's experiment with Action Comics Weekly.  While the decision to relegate Superman to a two-page story every week was an odd one, the rest of the features were filled with some real gems.  I remember really digging Wild Dog and Secret Six, two features I probably never would have sampled on my own.  Another find was Howard Chaykin's take on Blackhawk.  I loved the artwork and personality makeover that he gave the lead character, and wasn't surprised to see an ongoing series spring out of it.

The Thing and Blackhawk

I was aware of Blackhawk from their guest appearances in more superhero themed magazines, but it wasn't until the co-feature in Action Comics Weekly that I began to follow the characters. I liked the personality that Howard Chaykin gave to Janos Prohaska and really enjoyed the sleek art of Rick Burchett on that series.

With its international flavor and wartime action, this is another property that could find success on the big screen, if handled cleverly enough. I could see it working as a period piece or even updated for the present day.
