Black Lightning and Thor

This cover took some prep work before I could add in Black Lightning - here's a look behind the scenes at the process:

Space Ghost and The Tick

While Space Ghost Coast to Coast was a fun series, I preferred the Hanna-Barbera star as a straight up hero.  But who could take his place for hosting duties?  Given his outgoing personality, I thing that The Tick would be the perfect candidate for such an assignment.

Snake Eyes and Sgt. Rock

If there's one soldier outside of their unit that the G.I. Joe team would call in, it has to be Frank Rock.  I'd certainly be interested in a tale of how these army men from different eras would have to work together.

Nick Fury and The Elongated Man

No word yet on whether Ralph Dibny will show up anywhere in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU.  Metamorpho has already been cast and I'm guessing Plastic Man will be appearing early on as well since The Terrifics has been teased - so I don't know if Gunn will want to bring a third stretchy hero so soon.  Hopefully I am wrong about that, Elongated Man never gets the respect he deserves.

Commissioner Gordon and The Punisher

This is another cover that required a bit of prep work to accomplish.  With only a partial image available, I had to build out the signal and fencing before I could add in the Punisher elements.  Here's a behind the scenes look at the process:

Sandman Mystery Science Theatre 3000

When Shagg Matthews, Master Podcaster and Patron of this blog, suggested this combination, I thought that is was too crazy not to try.  I wasn't sure if I could pull it off until I saw this great cosplay by Adam Bakes.  Thanks for the idea, Shagg!

Zatanna and Medusa

Medusa has log been a favorite of mine.  She had a unique power set which presents a great visual and she was not simple a female version of an exisitng male character.  I also liked how she was at first presented as a villain, then a hero and finally a regal ruler - it was a cool progression.  She's not used enough in the comics and her live action treatment was insultingly bad.  Let's hope she sees a higher profile on and off the comics' page in the future.

Star Trek and Eternity

The crew of The Enterprise are no strangers to impossibly powerful entities, so this is a confrontation that would not be out of place on an episode of the original series.  I'd like to see how Kirk, Spock and the rest respond to a meeting with the living embodiment of the universe.

The Teen Titans and Gargoyle

Isaac Christians as the Gargoyle is an old soul inhabiting a powerful form, while the original Teen Titans were youths learning to step into the shoes of their more experienced partners.  I could definitely see a mentor/student relationship between them. It would be interesting to read about, anyway.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vs. Despero

Despero's return in the pages of Justice League really took me by surprise. It had been a few years and I had gotten used to the more humorous take on DC's premiere team - and then comes the Despero arc.  What was once a standard Silver Age alien villain came back in a way that was anything but humorous!  It was a welcome change for me, I was ready for some more serous action - and boy did he deliver!

Speed Race Vs. Black Racer

The Speed Racer movie is one of those films that seems to have gained a cult following after being considered a failure upon its original release. I remember not being crazy  about it, but enough time had passed that I thought I would give it a re-watch.  Hoo boy, I didn't even make it all the way through this time.  The over use of green screen effects was even more garish than I remembered. I still think there's a great Speed Racer movie to be made, but this wasn't it for me.

Doomsday Vs. Venom

This is a battle that would be fun to see, and for an artist to illustrate.  Especially if Doomsday ends up getting venomized as some point - I can only imagine the damage he could cause then!

John Carter and The Martian Manhunter

Here's a long overdue revisit.  J'onn J'onzz first encountered John Carter way back in STF #38, over a decade ago when this was still an MS Paint blog.  the John Carter movie may never get a sequel, but there's no reason that this tale shouldn't!

Supergirl and Ms. Marvel in: "My Twisted Twin!"

This marks the 14th appearance of The Danvers Twins on this blog, and if there's any villain that can keep these loving sisters at each other's throats, it has to be the malicious Hate Monger.  Pity the pour soul that gets in the middle of these sparring siblings!

Green Arrow and The Black Widow in: "From Star City to Stalingrad!"

I thought that it would be fun to present a Silver Age adventure featuring these two heroes.  Green Arrow and Black Widow shared a Bronze Age adventure in STF #2722 and first met (with Daredevil) in STF #1935...

The Badger and Wolverine

When Tom Brennan, a Patron of this Blog, suggested this pairing, I had to check and see if I had gotten to it yet - it really does seem like a natural.  To my surprise, I hadn't - so it was time to remedy that situation.  Thanks for the idea, Tom!

Doctor Doom Vs. The Legion of Doom

This is a match up that I have been meaning to get to for a while now, it was just a matter of finding the right images. That's a pretty powerful Legion line up, but if there's anyone who can give them a challenge, it's Victor Von Doom.

Vixen and Hercules in: "Stone Love!"

For this, the 12th appearance of Hercules and Vixen together, it looks as though they have run afoul of The Grey Gargoyle.  That guy used to really creep me out when I was a kid.  Being turned to stone seemed like a fate worse than death.  At least it was eventually reversible, unlike the same effect from the Greek god Medusa.

Sandman and Calvin and Hobbes

Dream of the Endless is all about storytelling, the imagination and the subconscious, So I imagine he would find himself drawn to these two. The adventures they create with one another would be sure to intrigue the master of the sleeping world.

The Fantastic Four and Kamandi

Time for another all-Kirby cover. Like many writers, I am using poor little Franklin Storm as a human mcguffin.  That youngster and his burgeoning powers provided a plot device that moved many a story forward.

Kamandi previously met The Thing on a MTIO MS Paint cover from back in 2011...

Wonder Woman and Machine Man

So what is the main reason behind the "no men on Themyscira" rule?  Is it simple because the Amazons truly distrust men that much?  Is there some kind of ancient prophesy or curse they are trying to keep at bay?  Or are they just being arbitrarily exclusionary?

Batgirl and Hawkeye

I wasn't very familiar with Kate Bishop from the comics, but id did enjoy the character on the Disney+ Hawkeye series.  She's supposed to anchor a Young Avengers team eventually in the MCU, so I am sure that we will see her again, it's just a matter of putting together the rest of the team.  Still, with the various strikes and Marvel deciding to slow their output, it might be some time before that comes to pass.

Lando Calrissian Vs. Aliens

There has been talk of a solo Lando Calrissian series on Disney+ with Donald Glover reprising the role.  The Disney+ Star Wars shows have definitely been a mixed bag thus far. Let's hope that if this show does move forward, a little more thought is put into the scripts.  Maybe once the Hollywood writer's strike is over, we'll get some stories truly worthy of the Star Wars name.

Hawkeye & Huntress Vs. Black Bolt and Black Canary

It looks like STF's most famous brother-sister act (here making their 11th appearance on the blog) has gotten  on the wrong side of one of Helena's Birds of Prey teammates.  Apparently Black Bolt and Black Canary have kept in touch since their performance together way back in STF #88

Sgt. Rock and The Phantom

Since The Phantom predated Batman, was he the first hero depicted with a costume that had the white eyes look?  I'm not sure if I can think of an earlier example.

Rock and The Phantom first met back in STF #1693...

The Flash and Captain Marvel

For a while, these were two of the most famous superheroes ever to be killed off.  The Flash eventually returned to the land of the living, but despite a few teases, Mar-Vell's death has not been reversed.  I think by this point he is safely resting in peace, I'd be surprised to see a true attempt to bring him back now.  That doesn't mean I wouldn't mind some appearances in flashback sequences, though.

Steel Vs. The Wrecking Crew

This is another cover that took a bit of tweaking to accomplish.  I had to remove The Defenders and then do some background extension, plus add in a bunch of extra rubble before gettting Steel in there. here's a look behind the scenes:

Thor and The Metal Men

Every so often a creative team tries to update and modernize the Metal Men, sometimes giving them edgy, extreme redesigns.  They always seem to return to their original attitudes and appearances, and for me that is a good thing.  Those nutty robots were perfectly realized right from their first appearance.

Captain America and Air Wave

I actually experienced a few Brooklyn blackouts during my 20 years living in NYC.  I remember one time my friend in the building came to my place and we cooked everything in the fridge on the gas stove and played scrabble by candlelight while listening to battery operated radio.  We definitely made the best of it, it was a fun night actually!

Robotman and The Vision

I'm not sure when the final episodes of Doom Patrol will air, but I am looking forward to how Cliff Steele's story is wrapped up.  I'm equally unsure when VisionQuest will air (or even begin production), but I am also looking forward to what happens next for the synthezoid.  I guess we'll just have to be patient.
