The Fantastic Four in the House of Mystery

Happy Halloween!  I can only imagine the kind of treats a stop at The House of Mystery would get you!

This cover required some de-cluttering before I could add in the FF - here's a look at the behind the scenes progress:

Jonah Hex and The West Coast Avengers

We've seen stories where Hex moves ahead in time, but I like it when heroes from the future come back to visit him as well.  I remember really liking the two part story in Justice League of America #198-199, where the leaguers met a bunch of DC's Western heroes.  I would be cool to see the Avengers do the same.

The Synthetic Six (Vs. Ultron)

I thought it would be fun to have another outing from this team of once-human heroes.  Who better to face a group with robotic forms than the most evil artificial creation ever - Ultron! The Synthetic Six first appeared in STF #3830...

Hawkman and Union Jack

It's interesting how tastes in art change over the years,  As a kid, I remember being very put off by the work of Frank Robbins when I first saw it on a Batman story.  As I grew older and began to expand my horizons beyond the traditional DC and Marvel house styles, I started to understand the appeal of his dynamic style with exaggerated physicality and thick heavy lines. His comic strip work really won me over.

Liberty Belle and Miss America

I was looking into images for this cover and was pleasantly reminded that issue #2 of Miss America from 1944 featured a photo cover of  the title character.  I believe it actually may even be Venus Ramey, the real life Miss America from that year, in the costume.  Very cool to see golden age cosplaying done so well!

The Addams Family in The House of Mystery

I have not seen the most recent Addams Family theatrical release, but I am interested to check it out.  It looks like it was made to appeal to a younger audience, which is fine.  The draw for me is that I really appreciate the designs of the animated characters.  They look very close to the cartoons of Chas Addams, where the creepy and kooky family got their start.  I appreciate it when adaptations stick so close to the source material.

Johnny Quick and Quicksilver

The Flash TV show isn't shy about bringing in new speedsters and this whole season revolves around Earth-2, so I am holding out hope for a Johnny Quick appearance one of these days.  Even Jesse Chambers has been a character on the show recently, so the groundwork has already been laid.  I was a fan of Johnny's even before All-Star Squadron due to the reprints I read - I always thought his costume was cool, loved the short sleeves.
