Batman and The Imperial Guard

Continued from yesterday's cover, we see that Batman has no shortage of suspects to interview.  It's a good thing he's the World's Greatest Detective!  I remember the cool issue of The Brave and the Bold where Batman visited the Legion of Super-Heroes to solve a crime.  I liked the respect the LSH showed him in that story, but I don't know if he would get the same amount of reverence from the Imperial Guard.

None of them would react to kryptonite..unless Gladiator gave him all the material he would need to keep them from walking away, or he stayed there as a guard...Batman won't be able to confront them. Unless they all got instructions to behave and answer honestly. Could be interesting.

OK I'm confused. Why do you keep referring to the Kree when they are the Shi'ar Imperial Guard? A race often at war with the Kree.

@MWC: in the mainstream X-men comics, the Shi'ar had a habit of "marrying" the races they conquered into their empire. Which I'm guessing means a symbolic marriage of state between some eligible Shi'ar bachelor aristocrat...and whoever was next-in-line to the seat of power of the conquered planet's highest-ranking leader. But, maybe in the Rossverse, the Kree WON their war against the Shi'ar! Resulting in the matrimonial equivalent of culture appropriation.

In any event, my prime suspect is the shape-changing Guardsman called Hobgoblin. I mean, who'd be a better choice for impersonation by, say, a Skrull infiltrator? I can see it, now. He/she was ordered to get DNA samples of all the other Guardsmen in order to create a one-Skrull army endowed with all the super-powers of those beings! Leading to the cover of STF #5000.*

"THE DOPPELGANG vs. The COMPOSITE SUPER SKRULL!"

*I'm assuming Ross has already cemented his plans for STF #4000.

P.S.---For "Doppelgang," picture an Earth 3-like moral inversion of the Totalitarians.

We may never find out who the culprit is. Then again, said culprit may have been compromised or (as Cary suggests) impersonated rather than treasonous. Perhaps some later follow-up can give us the information.

Re: The Doppelgang: This could be a good name for a group of shape-shifting villains, such as Mystique, Chameleon, Clayface, et al.

Ross made it two words, but he has used "The Doppel Gang" already.

Sowwies, but I've forgotten how to make links on this kind of comment thread, where I can't simply copy and paste. :(

@Kid C: Got ya covered.

We'd need a different name, then, for our group of villainous shapeshifters.

Good catch, Kid! And thanks for the cut-&-paste, Bob. :-)

Re: a new name for a Good Guy version of the Totalitarians. How about...the Counter-Offenders? And as for an all-metamorph team, how about...the Reformers?

I think it's more of a case of someone in the Shi'Ar did something evil to the Kree while pretending to be a member of the Shi'Ar Imperial Guard. That could mean it's a Skrull. They're basically the three major powers in near space.
