Godzilla Vs. 4 Famous Co-Stars

When Mike Shirley, a Patron of this blog, suggested I pair Fred Flintstone up with either Groo the Wanderer or Godzilla, I figured, why not both?  Then I decided to let a couple more club-wielding heroes into the mix, making it a real party.

I am always happy to feature the artwork of Sergio Aragones, one of the greatest and funniest cartoonists ever.  I was very lucky to pick up an original Groo sketch by him many years ago:

Where's Mightor?

Groo isn't a caveman, is he?

He wandered into the Stone Age. Things like that happen on Earth-STF.

Any conversation about funny cartoonists needs to include Philip Foglio who both writes and draws cartoons which has not been included on this site once. His art is type you can look at for years and and find new jokes.

Maybe his Girl Genius "Agatha Heterodyne" can meet Marvel's Girl Genius "Lunella Lafayette". Agatha will certainly speculate if her dinosaur is a construct.

How about Batman meets Goldie Diggers?*

*Think Lara Croft as manga/anime heroine.

@Anon729: he doesn't join the club till Cavey grows old and retires.*

*A lotta fans think he was the Ancient Hermit!

At first, based on just the visual, I thought that maybe George of the Jungle should be added; but then I read the text and saw what you were doing, and not so much. The cover's just right as-is.

But it still would be great to see George on this blog; I don't think he's ever been on here (at any rate, I don't see his tag). Maybe he can have a "run-in" with Groot or something (get it?).

Seeing Sergio's art on here is always a treat, but especially when he's drawn someone other than Groot. Clicking on his tag, I see that he's done characters on both sides of Marvel/DC, and seeing an all-Aragones cover would be great if you can find a good pairing.

As to things like Groo "wandering" into the Stone Age (I see what you did there) just "happening" on Earth-STF*, I consider each time to be a Machiavellian move in the war between Kang and the Time Trapper!

*I still like to call it the STFU. It's much more fun!

Love the look on Fred Flintstones face.

@TMIB: me, too. It's what G-rated exclaimers would call his "Wednesday-Thursday-Friday?" look.

@Anonymous - Captain Caveman and Mightor fought Godzilla in STF #2665 so he clearly wasn't putting up with either again.
However, Groo and Captain Caveman fought each other in #1737 but are too stupid to know any better :p

Maybe the Flintstones could be paired with Pokemon; some pokemon can make good ovens, refrigerators, and maybe microwave ovens.

Yeah but where would he get the images of the Pokémon that would make them fit in organically? Most poses are just stock poses and don't mesh well with the art style of the Flintstones.

Carycomic said...

@both anonymice: split the difference. Have Godzilla take on one of the Legendary Pokemon.

Or Wigglypuff. Godzilla vs. Wigglypuff would be interesting.

Jigglypuff or Wigglytuff?

Bob Greenwade said...

Wigglytuff. (Sorry; cut-and-pasted my own typo.)

There's still an issue with finding stock Pokémon art that would fit the artstyle organically with Godzilla.

Most Pokémon art that is official usually isn't dynamic.

Still, would refrigerators in Bedrock be powered by pokemon-like creatures?

Carycomic said...

Probably. Ever hear of Amana-ble Snowmen?

Anonymous said...

@Cary: nope! But, I love the suggestion about a fight with one of the Legendary Pokemon. GODZILLA VS. TYRANITAR (rated PG-13)!

An older one but to be fair, it seems Fred is the key since Fred isn't trying to fight and Godzilla isn't acting aggressively toward him. Of course, HB Godzilla was probably the most intelligent form of Godzilla so he just needs to ignore the club-carrying dimwits and hear Fred out on why he shouldn't flatten Bedrock down to well... bedrock.

Great analysis.
